It can be hard to know where to begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We get a lot of questions about Wegovy injection dosage and maintenance. So you certainly won\u2019t be the first person to think: \u2018What doses should I take, how do I take them, how often do I take them, and when?\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moving through your dosage schedule and losing weight is also just one part of your journey. At some point, you\u2019ll hit your goal weight and decide you\u2019re happy where you are. This is where the maintenance dose comes in. At this point you\u2019ll be thinking about your next steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This article guides you through this whole process \u2013 from the starting dose to maintaining weight after Wegovy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-wegovy-dosage\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wegovy Dosage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-what-are-the-wegovy-injection-doses\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the Wegovy Injection Doses?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Wegovy FlexTouch pens come in six different strengths: 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, 2.4 mg and 7.2 mg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 7.2 mg dose uses a different pen format to the other strengths. <a href=\"#wegovy-72\">Jump below<\/a> to learn more about the 7.2 mg dose and how you take it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-wegovy-dosage-schedule\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wegovy Dosage Schedule<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019ve never used a GLP-1 weight loss treatment before, your provider will prescribe you the 0.25 mg starting dose pen of Wegovy. You\u2019ll take this dose once a week for at least four weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending on how you respond to treatment, you\u2019ll gradually increase your dose, staying on each dose for a minimum of four weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, if you\u2019re using Mounjaro, and are currently on a higher dose, you may be able to switch to a higher dose of Wegovy straight away. Your provider will guide you to the right dose for you. So, each pen should last four weeks if you take it once a week \u2013 or around one month. Wegovy 7.2 mg pens are slightly different &#8211; they are single dose pens (monthly supply is 4 pens).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-what-s-the-wegovy-starting-dose\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s the Wegovy Starting Dose?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The starting dose of Wegovy weight loss medication is 0.25 mg, which you\u2019ll take for a minimum of four weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may not experience appetite suppression on this dose, but that\u2019s normal. These lower strengths help your body adjust to the medication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, don\u2019t worry if you don\u2019t feel it \u201ckicking in\u201d at lower doses. It doesn\u2019t mean Wegovy is not working for you. It just means you might not experience the effects until you reach a higher dose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"wegovy-72\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wegovy 7.2 mg Dose<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk\/health-advice\/weight-loss\/wegovy\/wegovy-7-2mg-dose\/\">7.2 mg dose of Wegovy<\/a> is for patients living with obesity who are already on the Wegovy 2.4 mg dose who feel their current dose isn&#8217;t providing enough support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your prescriber will help you decide if it&#8217;s safe to increase your dose. If you&#8217;ve taken 2.4 mg for four weeks, you can take the 7.2 mg dose the following week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 7.2 mg dose is changing to a single-use pen format. Previously supplied as three separate 2.4 mg injections, your monthly supply will now be 4 x single-use 7.2 mg pens &#8211; one per weekly dose. The medication remains the same; only the pen format is changing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You should not split or space out doses. If you do, your provider will not know which is the safest dose to prescribe for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more guidance on how to inject this dose, <a href=\"#use-wegovy\">head to the section below on how to use Wegovy<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-at-what-dose-does-wegovy-start-working\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">At What Dose Does Wegovy Start Working?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re wondering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk\/health-advice\/weight-loss\/wegovy\/how-long-does-wegovy-take-to-work\/\">how long does Wegovy takes to work<\/a>, it\u2019s important to first understand two things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Every person responds to the medication differently.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slow and steady weight loss is more sustainable than rapid weight loss.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just because one person is losing weight and feeling the effects on one dose, doesn\u2019t mean that you will. Appetite suppression may kick in right after your first dose \u2013 or you might not feel it until you increase your dose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Likewise, people also lose weight at their own rate, so try not to compare yourself to friends or other users online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In clinical trials, patients on the highest dose <a href=\"https:\/\/diabetesjournals.org\/diabetes\/article\/74\/Supplement_1\/1966-LB\/158768\/1966-LB-Efficacy-and-Safety-of-Semaglutide-7-2-mg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">lost on average 20.7% of their body weight<\/a> over 72 weeks. So, have realistic expectations of how much weight you will lose. Aim for 1-2 lbs per week as a guide. This will help you focus on long-term success over short-term results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-what-is-the-most-effective-wegovy-dose\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the Most Effective Wegovy Dose?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most effective dose of Wegovy is the 7.2 mg dose. In clinical trials, patients on this dose lost on average 20.7% of their starting body weight after 72 weeks. This is compared to the 2.4 mg dose, on which patients lost on average 17.5% of their starting weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the most effective dose <em>for you<\/em> might not be the highest dose. Instead, it\u2019s the dose where you\u2019re experiencing a reduced appetite, without feeling too uncomfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A higher dose might suppress your appetite more, but you might also experience worse side effects. This will make it harder for you to stick with the treatment long-term, eat a healthy diet and add exercise into your day. Remember: long-term, sustainable weight loss is the goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-what-should-i-do-if-you-ve-missed-a-dose\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Should I Do If You\u2019ve Missed a Dose?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Missing a Wegovy dose can happen, so try not to panic. Check how long ago you took your last injection and follow the guidance below to get back on track safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>If five days or less have passed<\/strong> since your last Wegovy dose: take your dose as soon as you remember. Make sure you leave a gap of at least two days (48 hours) between doses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If more than five days have passed, <\/strong>take your next scheduled dose on your usual injection day. For example, if you usually take your dose on Monday, but it\u2019s now Sunday, take your dose as usual on the next Monday.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Missed a full week?<\/strong> Skip this week&#8217;s dose and take your next dose on your usual scheduled day.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If more than three weeks have passed since your last dose<\/strong>, talk to your provider about how to restart your treatment. They might advise you to restart on a lower dose of Wegovy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You might be wondering, &#8220;Can I skip a week of Wegovy?\u2019 Sometimes patients might want to skip a dose, for example, they\u2019re feeling unwell. It is generally safe to skip a week if you\u2019re feeling sick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But remember that consistent use of the treatment will help it work as effectively as possible. So try and take it once a week on the same day each week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"use-wegovy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Use Wegovy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You might feel a bit anxious about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk\/health-advice\/weight-loss\/wegovy\/how-to-take-wegovy\/\">how to use Wegovy injections<\/a>, especially if you\u2019re not used to needles. But the manufacturers have designed the pen to be as simple to use and as comfortable as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Follow these simple steps each time to make sure you\u2019re using your pen safely and getting the full dose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-step-1-prepare-for-injection\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Prepare For Injection<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Get your supplies together. You\u2019ll need your Wegovy pen, an alcohol swab, a cotton pad or cotton wool ball and your sharps bin for used needles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wash your hands.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check the pen\u2019s expiry date and that the Wegovy pen dose matches your current week of treatment. Check that the liquid is clear. If it\u2019s cloudy or discoloured, or out of date, do not use it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepare the site: Use an alcohol swab to clean the chosen site. You could also use soap and water. Allow the skin to dry before you inject the dose.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-step-2-attach-the-needle\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Attach the Needle<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To attach the needle:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tear off the paper tab and push it straight into the pen. Twist it until it\u2019s tightly secured.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove both of the caps covering the needle. If there\u2019s damage to the paper tab or outer cap, use a new needle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove the outer needle cap. Keep it for later.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pull the inner needle cap off and throw it away.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-step-3-check-the-flow\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Check the Flow<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re taking the first dose of a new pen, you\u2019ll need to check the flow first. Here\u2019s how to do it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check the dose selector symbol lines up with the dose pointer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hold the pen with the needle pointing up. Press on the dose button until the dose counter returns to 0.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the pen is ready to use, you should see a drop of Wegovy at the tip of the needle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Can\u2019t see it? Check it again. But only do this twice. If you still can\u2019t see a drop, don\u2019t use the pen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-step-4-inject-wegovy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4: Inject Wegovy<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Take the cap off the pen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Insert the needle into your chosen injection site at a 90\u00b0 angle. Hold down the button until you hear a click, then count to six slowly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lift the pen slowly from your skin.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-step-5-after-the-injection\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 5: After the Injection<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After you inject Wegovy, take the following steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Put the plastic cap back on the needle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take the needle off the pen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Throw the needle into a sharps bin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Put the cap back on the pen and store it safely.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-where-to-inject-wegovy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where to Inject Wegovy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll need to inject under the skin, and avoid injecting into a vein or muscle. The three approved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk\/health-advice\/weight-loss\/wegovy\/wegovy-injection-sites\/\">Wegovy injection sites<\/a> are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The stomach<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The thigh (upper leg)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The upper arm<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rotate your injection site each week. You can inject in the same body area each week, but avoid injecting in the same spot. For example, if you inject in your thigh one week, inject in the other thigh or your stomach the following week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is good practise to alternate injection site (e.g. the thigh) the following week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-best-time-to-take-wegovy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Best Time to Take Wegovy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wegovy is just as effective in the morning as it is in the afternoon or evening. So there is no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk\/health-advice\/weight-loss\/wegovy\/best-time-to-take-wegovy\/\">\u201cbest\u201d time to take Wegovy<\/a>, if you\u2019re after better results on weight loss treatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That being said, you <em>will <\/em>get better results on Wegovy if you take it consistently \u2013 once a week, every week. So picking a time that works for you, your body and your lifestyle (that you can remember!) will help you maintain this schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many patients find that the evening is better for injecting if they experience any side effects. This is when most people are at home and comfortable. They may even sleep through the worst of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, some patients who work evening or night shifts find a morning injection works better for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-how-to-store-wegovy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Store Wegovy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before using your pen, you\u2019ll have to stick to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk\/health-advice\/weight-loss\/wegovy\/wegovy-storage\/\">Wegovy storage<\/a> instructions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Store unopened Wegovy pens in the main body of your fridge at 2\u00b0C to 8\u00b0C (36\u00b0F to 46\u00b0F)<\/strong>, keeping them in their original packaging to protect from light. Avoid the fridge door, back wall, and cooling element, where temperatures can fluctuate or drop low enough to freeze the medication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After first use, follow the storage instructions for your specific Wegovy pen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Wegovy 7.2mg single-use pen can be stored outside the fridge at temperatures not above <strong>30\u00b0C<\/strong> for up to <strong>28 days<\/strong>. Other Wegovy pens (0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg) can be stored at room temperature for up to <strong>42 days<\/strong>. Your pen should be discarded if it has been exposed to light, exposed to temperatures above 30\u00b0C, or if it has been out of the fridge for more than 28\/42 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Never use a pen that has been frozen<\/strong> &#8211; even if it looks normal after thawing, freezing causes permanent damage to the medication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before every injection, check the solution through the pen window &#8211; it should be clear and colourless. If it looks cloudy, discoloured, or contains visible particles, do not use it and contact us for advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-why-is-my-wegovy-pen-not-cold-when-delivered\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is My Wegovy Pen Not Cold When Delivered?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk\/weight-loss\/wegovy-pen-delivery-storage\/\">Your pen may arrive at room temperature<\/a> &#8211; Wegovy injection pens are no longer deliver via &#8220;cold chain&#8221;<\/strong>. As of April 2026, the MHRA approved Wegovy pens to be transported below 30\u00b0C for up to 48 hours. This is completely safe and won&#8217;t affect the quality or effectiveness of your medication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Storage and delivery guidance may vary depending on the Wegovy pen type. The Wegovy 7.2mg single-use pen should be stored in the fridge between <strong>2\u00b0C and 8\u00b0C<\/strong> before use. 7.2mg pens are still delivered via cold chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once your pen arrives, place it straight into the main body of your fridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This delivery guidance may vary depending on the Wegovy pen you receive.
