Not everyone will experience them (most tolerate the medication well) but 1 in 10 patients do get common side effects, like nausea, headaches and constipation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if you\u2019re on the 2.4 mg dose and looking to increase to 7.2 mg, you might be worried side effects will get worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Find out more about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk\/health-advice\/weight-loss\/wegovy\/wegovy-7-2mg-dose\/\">Wegovy 7.2 mg<\/a> side effects, how they compare to lower doses of the medication, the effect of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk\/health-advice\/weight-loss\/wegovy\/wegovy-dosage-maintenance\/\">Wegovy dosage<\/a> titration process on side effects, and when you should seek medical advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-understanding-wegovy-7-2-mg\">Understanding Wegovy 7.2 mg<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 7.2mg dose of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk\/online-doctor\/weight-loss\/wegovy\/\">Wegovy injections<\/a> is taken in exactly the same way as all the other doses &#8211; self-administered once per week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pen format is changing to a single-use 7.2mg pen (previously 3x 2.4 mg pens), meaning the full weekly dose is now delivered in one injection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It contains the same active ingredient, semaglutide, and was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/landia\/article\/PIIS2213-8587(25)00226-8\/abstract\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\" >developed specfically to provide adults living with obesity<\/a> achieve suffcient results after sustained plateaue on the standard 2.4 mg maintenance dose. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-common-wegovy-side-effects\">Common Wegovy Side Effects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019ve been taking Wegovy at a lower dose, you\u2019ll probably already be familiar with the most common side effects of this medication. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicines.org.uk\/emc\/files\/pil.13803.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noreferrer noopener\">Patient Information Leaflet<\/a> (PIL) lists the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nausea<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diarrhoea<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vomiting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Constipation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stomach pain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Headache<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fatigue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dizziness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bloating<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Belching<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stomach flu<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heartburn<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Low blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As common side effects, these have typically been reported by at least <a href=\"https:\/\/bnf.nice.org.uk\/medicines-guidance\/adverse-reactions-to-drugs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">1 in 10 people<\/a> taking the medication. They are <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC8717485\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">usually mild<\/a>, and most people find that they get easier to manage as their body becomes used to their new medication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are also things that you can do to help you better <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk\/health-advice\/weight-loss\/wegovy\/wegovy-side-effects\/\">manage your side effects<\/a>, so they don\u2019t become too disruptive to your day-to-day life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-are-side-effects-worse-at-wegovy-7-2-mg\">Are Side Effects Worse at Wegovy 7.2 mg?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wegovy 7.2 mg is simply a higher dose of the medication that contains the same active ingredient. So <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJMoa2032183\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reported side effects<\/a> are similar to those seen in people taking lower Wegovy doses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means that they too are mainly gastrointestinal. The most common ones include nausea, changes in bowel habits such as diarrhoea and constipation, vomiting and abdominal pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And just like lower doses, studies report that, for most people, these side effects are mild to moderate. They also get better and become easier to manage the longer they take the 7.2 mg dose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the most common side effects of Wegovy, clinical trials found patients reported an increase in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ema.europa.eu\/en\/documents\/product-information\/wegovy-epar-product-information_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">dysesthesia<\/a>. This is a condition where you feel abnormal or uncomfortable sensory feelings like burning, tingling, electric shock-type sensations. It can affect any part of the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-effect-of-titration-on-wegovy-side-effects\">The Effect of Titration on Wegovy Side Effects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you start taking Wegovy, you\u2019ll start on the lowest dose. The side effects from taking Wegovy usually lessen or disappear completely when your body gets used to the medication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, most people don\u2019t stick at the 0.25 mg dose. Instead, they follow the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wegovy.com\/obesity\/starting-wegovy\/starting-wegovy-pen.html#once-weekly-dosing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" rel=\"dofollow\" >titration process<\/a>, working up through different doses to find the one that works best for their weight loss goals. This means that you may experience a temporary return of or increase in your side effects each time you titrate up to the next dose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s important that you don\u2019t skip the titration process, which involves increasing the weekly dose every four weeks until you reach your optimal maintenance dose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is because titrating gives your body a chance to get used to the side effects and makes it <a href=\"https:\/\/dom-pubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/dom.70004\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">easier to stick with the treatment<\/a> long-term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-to-seek-medical-help-for-side-effects\">When to Seek Medical Help for Side Effects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although most people only experience mild side effects from taking Wegovy, it can potentially cause much more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk\/health-advice\/weight-loss\/serious-side-effects-glp-1s\/\">serious side effects<\/a> that require urgent medical attention.
