What are the main differences between Foundayo and the Wegovy pill?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Foundayo (orforglipron)<\/a> is a small molecule. Semaglutide, the active ingredient in both the Wegovy pill<\/a> and injections, is a peptide drug with a larger, less stable structure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both are GLP-1 receptor agonists. These weight loss medications act on appetite and fullness signals linked to eating, and stabilise blood sugar levels. Many people feel full sooner on GLP-1 treatment and end up eating less without trying to restrict food deliberately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stability difference is what shapes your daily routine. Stomach acid breaks peptide drugs down quickly. Very little semaglutide (less than 1%) in each Wegovy tablet actually reaches the bloodstream. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breakfast, coffee, or other tablets can further reduce absorption. So, the Wegovy pill has to be taken before breakfast or other medication. Orforglipron is more stable. A much higher 79% of each dose is absorbed and it does not rely on fasting for absorption..<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) approved Foundayo on 1 April 2026. The Wegovy pill was approved in December 2025. Both can be prescribed for adults with obesity, or for people with a lower BMI of 27, if weight-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes or sleep apnoea are already present. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) has now approved the Wegovy pill for sale in the UK in June 2026. Foundayo is still awaiting MHRA approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do results compare for Foundayo vs oral Wegovy?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On the numbers, the Wegovy pill produced greater weight loss in clinical trials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The OASIS 4 trial<\/a> followed 307 adults taking Wegovy 25 mg tablets for 64 weeks. Average weight loss was 13.6%. Roughly three in ten participants lost 20% or more of their starting weight. On placebo, weight loss was around 2%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the ATTAIN-1 trial<\/a> of over 3000 adults, Foundayo\u2019s numbers were lower. People taking the highest dose lost 11.2% of their body weight over 72 weeks. The lowest tested dose: 7.5%. Those on placebo lost around 2%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For someone weighing 100kg, the gap is roughly 3kg, 14kg with the Wegovy pill versus 11kg with Foundayo. The studies followed different groups of patients and used different dosing schedules, so the results are not perfectly comparable. Researchers have not yet published a study testing orforglipron vs oral semaglutide against each other directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some people tolerate higher doses easily. Others keep to lower doses because of side effects, or because they are seeing results. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether that 3kg difference will translate from trial to real-life is still unclear. Both oral medications are new, and data is limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One thing the trials don’t answer is what happens after you stop. With injectable GLP-1s, evidence from 37 studies<\/a> points to weight regain when you come off treatment. Average gain: 0.4kg per month. Long-term follow-up data for the oral versions is still limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which is easier to take, Foundayo or the Wegovy pill?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Wegovy pill demands a strict routine. First thing every morning, you wake up and take the tablet on an empty stomach with a small sip of water (no more than 120mls). Then wait 30 minutes before coffee, breakfast, or any other medication. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some people will barely notice the fasting window. Others already have crowded morning medication routines. Levothyroxine, for example, also needs to be taken on  an empty stomach with a gap before food. People taking both face two separate fasting periods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foundayo doesn\u2019t have this constraint. According to the Foundayo label<\/a>, you can take it at any time of day. You don’t need to time food, water, or other medications around it. No fasting. No waiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are already juggling multiple morning tablets, the fasting requirement may matter more than a few percentage points of weight loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which has fewer side effects, Foundayo or the Wegovy pill?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the ATTAIN-1 trial, between 5% and 10% of people on Foundayo stopped treatment as a result of side effects, depending on the dose. Around 3% of those on placebo stopped for the same reason. In OASIS 4, gastrointestinal side effects were also the most common reason for stopping treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both tablets commonly cause nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, and indigestion. We typically see these surface during dose increases and ease within the first few weeks as the body adjusts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foundayo figures in the table are for the highest dose. Lower doses produced fewer side effects. Serious side effects were actually less common on the Wegovy pill than on placebo. In OASIS 4: 3.9% versus 8.8%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neither drug clearly wins on tolerability. The Wegovy pill produced more nausea and vomiting. Foundayo caused more constipation and diarrhoea. These trials were not head-to-head, so the figures are not a direct comparison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foundayo offers more room to adjust if side effects are difficult. Six dose strengths run from 0.8 mg up to 17.2 mg. There is space to hold or step down a dose. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Wegovy pill builds to a single 25 mg maintenance dose. People usually lose more weight as doses increase, although nausea and other gut symptoms become more common too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When should I see a doctor?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A few side effects need urgent medical review:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pain spreading through the upper abdomen into the back, especially alongside vomiting, needs emergency assessment because pancreatitis is possible. Stop the medication and call 999<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Persistent vomiting, severe diarrhoea, or signs of dehydration need a same-day medical review. Signs of dehydration include constant thirst, dizziness, dark urine, or producing very little urine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

GLP-1 medications can cause acute kidney injury through fluid loss. Severe upper-right abdominal pain after eating fatty food can suggest gallbladder problems. Seek same-day medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tell your GP about any lump or swelling in your neck, ongoing hoarseness, or difficulty swallowing. Both medications carry a boxed warning for thyroid C-cell tumours found in animal studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you notice any changes to your vision, seek urgent medical attention. Non-Arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION) is a possible side effect that can lead to permanent vision issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you experience any of the following effects, you may be experiencing an allergic reaction to the medication;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
