Including how they work, who they\u2019re for, and which one is more effective for weight loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-is-wegovy-the-same-as-ozempic\">Is Wegovy the same as Ozempic?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No. Although they contain the same ingredient (semaglutide), Ozempic and Wegovy are not the same medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ozempic<\/strong> is licensed to treat type 2 diabetes. This means they mimic a natural hormone called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1). GLP-1 is released after eating to indicate satiety (feeling of fullness).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Semaglutide helps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Reduce appetite<\/strong>, so you feel full sooner<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Slow down digestion<\/strong>, meaning food stays in your stomach longer<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Increase insulin release<\/strong>, which lowers blood glucose in people with type 2 diabetes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This combination \u2013 along with lifestyle changes, a healthy diet and exercise \u2013 makes semaglutide effective for losing weight and controlling blood sugar levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-which-one-can-i-use-for-weight-loss\">Which One Can I Use for Weight Loss?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wegovy is the only one of the medications licensed for weight loss in the UK. It\u2019s approved for people who are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Obese (BMI \u226530)<\/strong>; or<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Overweight (BMI \u226527)<\/strong> with another weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure or sleep apnoea<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ozempic is not approved for weight loss in the UK<\/strong>. But it is sometimes prescribed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk\/health-advice\/uncategorized\/what-does-off-label-medication-mean\/\">off-label<\/a> for this purpose, particularly when Wegovy isn\u2019t available. This higher dose in Wegovy delivers greater appetite suppression.
