About Anbesol Baby Teething Gel

Anbesol Gel offers a fast and effective treatment for teething pain, ulcers and denture irritation, particularly where non-medicinal methods have failed to help. Anbesol is designed to provide maximum relief from oral pain, without running the risk of infection and further problems.

Anbesol can also be used in adults to provide temporary relief of pain from recurrent mouth ulcers, such as canker sores.

This medication is suitable for children aged 5 months and older, including children, adolescents and adults.

Anbesol has three main ingredients. Lidocaine is an anaesthetic, which blocks the body from sending pain signals. Chlorocresol and cetylpyridinium chloride are both antiseptics, which kill bacteria that might collect in wounds in the mouth and cause infections.

Practical Tips

Teething can be a difficult time for both parent and baby. The following tips might give your little one some relief;

Keep an eye out for chewing - as your baby approaches six months, you will see them begin to chew on anything they can get hold of. This is a sign that they are starting to teethe; you can provide them with something healthy to chew on, such as vegetables or a bread crust. Avoid foods that contain sugar, as this can lead to tooth decay.
Teething rings - these plastic rings give your baby something to safely chew on. This can help teeth move through the gun, and provide a sensation of pressure to relieve the pain of teething. Some rings can be cooled in the fridge, for extra soothing sensations. Never put a teething ring in the freezer, as this may damage your baby’s gums.

FAQ

How does Anbesol work?

Anbesol contains three active ingredients. Lidocaine helps prevent the body from sending pain signals, which helps keep pain under control. Both chlorocresol and cetylpyridinium act as antiseptics, keeping the site of tooth eruption clean and preventing infections.

What is anbesol used for?

Anbesol can be used for a variety of purposes. For young children, it can be used for pain relief from teething pain, particularly where non-medical methods have failed.

For adults and adolescents, Anbesol can be used to help treat mouth ulcers and irritation from dentures.

How do I know my baby is teething?

While a baby cannot directly tell you they are teething, there are a few signs and symptoms that can give an indication. If their cheeks are reddened, they are dribbling a lot more than usual, and their gums appear red and swollen, then chances are they are teething.
