FAQ
Is Benadryl an antihistamine?
Benadryl contains the active ingredient acrivastine, which is an antihistamine. Antihistamines work by preventing your body from releasing a substance called histamine. When exposed to dangerous substances, your body produces histamine to draw immune cells towards the affected area. This creates swelling, itching, and mucus production.
In allergies, this reaction occurs when the body is exposed to common, harmless substances. Antihistamines block this process, preventing and reducing the symptoms of allergic reactions.
