About Care Calamine Lotion

How does calamine lotion work?

Calamine lotion works in two major ways; as an astringent, and as an antiseptic.

An astringent, such as calamine, causes the skin’s cells to retract, shirking down to increase blood pressure and increase blood flow away from the swollen area. This carries warmer blood away, creating a cooling effect.

An antiseptic, such as zinc oxide, helps to kill bacteria, keeping skin clean and preventing infection. This is especially important, as scratching the skin when it is itchy can cause damage, and allow bacteria access to your skin.

Can you sleep with calamine lotion on?

Yes - applying calamine overnight is a great way to remove hives and spots. However, this may be too drying for some skin types, particularly those with sensitive skin.

How To Use Care Calamine Lotion  

Shake the bottle before use.

Apply a small amount to a cotton wool pad and apply to the affected area as required.

Calamine lotion is suitable for use by the young, adults and elderly. 

If your symptoms get worse, or have not improved in 7 days, stop using this product and speak to your doctor or pharmacist.

Warnings for use of Care Calamine Lotion  

Do not use this medication if you have an allergy to any of the listed ingredients.

For external use only. Do not use near eyes or mouth. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Using calamine lotion during pregnancy and breastfeeding is unlikely to have any ill effects; if you are unsure, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before use.

If you are due to receive an x-ray, speak to your doctor before using this product, as it may mask the x-ray picture.
