How does Clarityn work?

When your body goes through an allergic reaction, cells called mast cells release a substance called histamine. Histamine causes your immune system to create the classic signs of an allergic reaction, including swelling, sensitivity, redness and pain.

Hay fever is caused by a reaction to pollen released by plants. The classic symptoms of hay fever, such as a runny nose and watery eyes, are caused by your body releasing histamine.

Clarityn contains an antihistamine, which prevents your body from reacting to histamine, relieving symptoms and preventing them from starting.

Clarityn Dosage

This medication is not suitable for children under 6 years or who have a body weight of 30kg or less.

Adults and children 6 years and older who weigh more than 30kg - 1 tablet once daily.

Warnings for Clarityn 10mg Allergy Tablets

Do not take Clarityn Allergy Tablets if;

• You are allergic to loratadine or any of the other ingredients
• You are pregnant or breastfeeding

Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking Clarityn allergy Tablets if;

• You have liver disease
• You are scheduled to have any skin tests for allergies - do not take Clarityn for two days before having these tests, as it may affect your test results.

This medication is not suitable for children under the age of 6, or with a body weight of 30kg or less.

The side effects of Clarityn may be increased when taken alongside other medications. Tell your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before using Clarityn while using other medications to check for possible drug interactions..

If you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor before using this medication. Loratadine is excreted in breast milk; do not use this medication while breastfeeding.

Clarityn contains lactose - speak to your doctor before using this medication if you are intolerant to some sugars.
