About Compeed Callus Plasters

Compeed Callus Plasters contain hydrocolloid active gel, which absorbs natural moisture and provides optimum cushioning from rubbing and pressure. The wound healing technology works from the inside out, improving moisturisation to soften the callus, helping to remove it.

FAQ

What causes calluses?

Calluses are rough, yellowed patches of skin, caused by friction or pressure. Calluses resemble corns, but are larger and less well defined than corns. The most common places to see calluses are your hands and feet.

Calluses on your feet are often caused by ill-fitting shoes or unaccustomed exercise. This causes the interior of your footwear to rub against the skin.

The outer layer of your skin contains cells called keratinocytes. These cells produce keratin, a substance that helps your skin be an effective barrier. As the rubbing and pressure builds, the outer layer of skin adds more keratin to the skin. creating a much tougher layer to protect the skin from damage.

This callus becomes a rough patch of built-up dead skin cells, packed with keratin to help form a protective barrier, sheltering the skin below from the damage caused by friction and pressure.

Normally, these are harmless - however, under some circumstances, they may be painful or cause issues with walking. Compeed Callus patches help to reduce pressure from the callus, relieving pain and allowing them to heal naturally.

How can I prevent calluses?

Moisturising your feet and exfoliating after showering or bathing can help prevent hard skin from forming. This removes old dead skin cells before they can harden.

Protecting your feet with socks, insoles, and other techniques can also prevent the formation of calluses. In particular, wearing heels or other shaped footwear can change the way pressure is applied to your feet. This leads to calluses forming in unusual spots, which can lead to pain when walking.

Going barefoot for long periods can also cause calluses as a natural defence mechanism. These calluses tend to be better spread across the foot, and easier to live with, but can still cause problems.

Side Effects

Compeed Callus Plasters Side Effects

As with all medications, some users may experience side effects when using Compeed Callus Plasters - however, most will not.

Some users have reported irritation around the application site. This is most likely due to an allergic reaction to the adhesive used.

If you experience any signs of an allergic reaction, consult your doctor or seek emergency medical advice in cases of severe allergic reactions. Signs of a severe allergic reaction include difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness or skin blistering.

If you suffer from diabetes, heart conditions or circulatory problems, do not try to treat calluses or corns yourself. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Directions

Compeed Callus Plasters Instructions

Soften the skin with hot water, removing any hard skin with a towel.
Clean and dry skin before use.
Unwrap plaster and remove the top paper, then the bottom paper printed with Compeed, without touching the adhesive side.
Apply plaster firmly over the callus, ensuring the edges are smoothed once applied.
Leave the plaster in place until it starts to detach. This may take several days.

If you wish to remove the Compeed plaster earlier, do not pull upwards; instead, slowly stretch the plaster along the skin.

Warnings

Warnings for use of Compeed Callus Patches

Leave the plaster in place until it is ready to be removed. Removing it early may cause the callus to reform prematurely.

Individual experience may vary. If you find that your callus has not been removed after treatment, consult your doctor.

If you have diabetes, heart disease or circulatory problems, do not try to treat calluses or corns by yourself. These conditions can make foot problems much more serious. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist for safe techniques and treatments.
