About E45 Itch Relief Cream

E45 Itch Cream is a non-greasy moisturising cream, designed to help treat the itch associated with eczema and dermatitis, while also providing protection and moisturising to treat dry skin conditions.

E45 Itch Relief Cream has two active ingredients; lauromacrogol treats and soothes itchy skin, while the urea (a natural component of your skin’s defences) helps to create a barrier layer, locking in moisture and protecting your skin from further irritation.

E45 Itch Relief moisturises skin, and leaves it feeling calm and comfortable. E45 Itch Relief is suitable for the treatment of eczema, psoriasis and scaling skin conditions.

The 50g and 100g variations come in an easy-use tube, while the 500g comes in a pump-top bottle, for ease of application.

FAQ

How does E45 Itch Relief work?

When your skin itches, your body sends messages from your skin to let you know there is some form of irritation. E45’s anti-itch ingredient, lauromacrogols, are a topical anaesthetic. This means they cancel out these itch messages by lightly numbing the skin, preventing any signals from being sent. This helps to calm the skin down, and provides a mild pain-killing effect as well.

E45 also contains urea. This compound is found naturally on your skin, and helps to create the barrier layer of oils that are normally present on your skin. In dry skin conditions, however, this layer is often disrupted, leading to skin drying out and losing protection. Urea and paraffin both help to reinstate this layer, keeping skin protected and locking moisture into your skin.

Can I use E45 Itch Relief Cream for thrush?

E45 Itch Relief is designed for use on your skin, meaning it could be used for itching on the external gential area. However, it is not suitable for internal use, meaning you would need to be very careful about how it was applied, and it could not be used for internal itching. You would be better served with a specific thrush treatment, such as Canesten Duo.

Side Effects

E45 Itch Relief Cream Side Effects

As with all medications, some users may experience side effects when using E45 Itch Relief Cream - however, most will not.

While E45 cream is mostly well tolerated, some patients have reported a burning sensation, redness, itching or pus. This product is more likely to cause irritation if applied to broken or inflamed skin.

Urea may cause other topically applied medicines to see increased penetration through the skin barrier when used at the same time.

If you suspect an allergic reaction or if anything unusual happens, stop using the product and speak to your doctor, dermatologist or pharmacist.

Info Leaflet

Before taking any medication, it is important to read the Patient Information Leaflet. You can find information leaflets for your medicines by typing them into the search bar at medicines.org, or by contacting us.
