Ideal for sprains, muscle strain and arthritic conditions, Voltarol Joint Pain Gel is an easy-to-use alternative to oral painkillers. Voltarol’s emulgel formula is designed to provide deep, penetrating pain relief, without leaving any residue behind.
Voltarol Joint Pain 2.32% Gel contains diclofenac diethylammonium (diclofenac) as the active ingredient. Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). How to use Voltarol Joint Pain Gel
Not suitable for children under 14 years old.
For adults and children over 14 years old - apply the gel two times daily, preferably morning and evening or as required.
Squeeze out a small amount onto the affected area. Use an amount between the size of a penny and a 2 pence piece (2-4g).
Slowly massage the gel into the affected site. You may feel a slight cooling as the gel absorbs and dissipates on your skin. Do not use more than is necessary to create a thin layer covering the affected area. You should not use more than 8g per day (56g a week).
Wash your hands thoroughly once the gel has been applied, to prevent accidental contact with the eyes, nose or mouth.
Side effects of Voltarol Joint Pain Gel
As with all medications, some users may experience side effects when using Voltarol Joint Pain Gel.
Common side effects include skin rash, itching or reddening of the skin.
Rare side effects include sun sensitivity of the treatment area, including sunburn, itching and swelling.
If you experience any side effects, stop using this medication and speak to your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
If you experience any signs of an allergic reaction stop using this medication IMMEDIATELY and seek medical help. Signs of an allergic reaction may include;
- skin rash with hives
- wheezing or difficulty breathing

How do I use Voltarol Joint Pain Gel?
Depending on the size of the affected area, use between 2-4g (roughly the size of a penny) 2 times per day. Once applied, massage into the skin until evaporated. Wash your hands thoroughly after application.
Does Voltarol contain ibuprofen?
No. Voltarol contains diclofenac as the active ingredient. Both ibuprofen and diclofenac are NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), meaning they function similarly. Ibuprofen and diclofenac cannot be used together at the same time.
Can you take paracetamol with Voltarol Gel?
You can take paracetamol alongside Voltarol, as both operate differently enough to not cause any interactions or issues. However, please read the Patient Information Leaflet (available in our “Info Leaflet” section) before using a new medication.

Voltarol Joint Pain Gel Warnings
Do not use this medication if you have ever had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients, or to other medication used to treat pain or inflammation (such as aspirin or ibuprofen).
If your joint pain is new and has no obvious causes, speak to your doctor before using this product.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine if you’re pregnant. Do not use it during the last three months of pregnancy.
Do not apply Voltarol cream to open or sore skin, or to skin that has a rash. If a rash develops as a result of using this product, stop using it immediately and contact your doctor.
Avoid applying to large areas of skin for long periods, as this may increase the amount that is absorbed. Only do so with direct confirmation from your doctor.
Do not use it for longer than 14 days without a recommendation from your doctor. If your pain and swelling last for more than 7 days, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
External use only. Do not swallow or bring into contact with the eyes, mouth or nose.

Active ingredient - diclofenac diethylammonium (each gram of gel contains 23.2mg of diclofenac diethylammonium)
Other ingredients - butylhydroxytoluene, carbomers, cocoyl caprylocaprate, diethylamine, isopropyl alcohol, liquid paraffin, macrogol cetostearyl ether, oleyl alcohol, propylene glycol, perfume eucalyptus sting and purified water.
