Celevac is used to relieve constipation or diarrhoea and suppress and control appetite in the treatment of obesity. This medicine contains the active ingredient methylcellulose which is a simple bulking agent. The tablets work by absorbing
water and increasing in size to make bulk in the stomach or bowels. This action helps to restore normal bowel function in both constipation and diarrhoea. It can also give a feeling of fullness which can help to reduce your appetite for food. 

Side Effects of Celevac Tablets

Like all medicines, Celevac Tablets can have side effects. At the usual dose, Celevac Tablets should not cause any problems. The following symptoms may occur in some patients:

• Flatulence
• Stomach bloating
• Abdominal cramps or stomach ache
• Pain in the rectum when going to the toilet (faecal impaction)
• Allergic reaction (such as skin rash)

Rarely, bowel obstruction (blocked bowels) may occur with this kind of medicine. If you think you may have this, inform your doctor immediately.

Warnings for Celevac Tablets

Do not take Celevac if you:

• are allergic (hypersensitive) to methylcellulose or any of the other ingredients in Celevac;
• have been told by a doctor that you are at risk of suffering from bowel obstruction, faecal impaction, or colonic atony (weak bowel);
• have diarrhoea with a high fever and/or blood in the stools;
• have difficulty swallowing;
• are severely dehydrated.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before Celevac if you:

• are elderly or have limited mobility;
• have intestinal narrowing;
• are prone to constipation because your gut works slowly

Ingredients in Celevac Tablets

The active ingredient is methylcellulose.
The other ingredients are lactose, saccharin sodium, povidone, erythrosine, strawberry flavour 52.318AP, purified talc, magnesium stearate.
