What is the Wegovy pill?

The Wegovy pill is an oral prescription-only weight management medication taken once daily. The active ingredient of oral Wegovy is semaglutide, the same active ingredient found in the weekly Wegovy injection.

Oral Wegovy uses SNAC coating technology to protect semaglutide as it passes through your stomach. This allows the medication to be absorbed into your bloodstream. Without SNAC, stomach acid would break down the medication before it could work.

The pill uses a higher daily dose (25 mg) for maintenance because less medication is absorbed orally than through injection, achieving a similar effect as the 2.4 mg weekly injection.

Wegoy pill was approved in the UK by the MHRA on the 11 June 2026.

How does the Wegovy pill work?

Wegovy mimics glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), a hormone your gut releases after eating.

The Wegovy pill works by:

  • Reducing appetite: It signals to your brain that you're full, helping you feel satisfied with smaller portions and reducing cravings between meals

  • Slowing digestion: Food stays in your stomach longer, prolonging feelings of fullness and reducing the urge to snack

  • Supporting blood sugar control: It helps regulate post-meal blood sugar levels, which can reduce energy crashes and hunger spikes

Wegovy weight loss pills are an effective treatment when combined with healthy eating and increased physical activity.

How long do Wegovy pills take to work?

Most people notice appetite changes within the first 1-4 weeks. Measurable weight loss typically becomes apparent from week 5-6 onwards as your dose increases.

The Wegovy pill follows a 12-week dose escalation schedule, starting at 1.5 mg daily and increasing every 30 days until you reach the 25 mg maintenance dose. This gradual approach helps your body adjust and reduces side effects.

In clinical trials, participants taking the 25 mg dose achieved an average weight loss of 13.6% over 64 weeks.

Individual results vary and depend on consistent daily use, following administration instructions, and maintaining healthy lifestyle changes alongside treatment.

Very reputable company

I like the way you had me wait until I uploaded a current picture when joining your company, and then wait until I was assessed by a doctor and had a decision. It proves you are a very reputable company and do not allow people to abuse the drug. It came packaged in an internally padded box with a cool pack, which I also appreciated. The service was spot on and my order went through nice and smooth.

The experience has been life changing

The experience has been life changing for me. I have lost about 5 stone and still have another 2 stone to go, but I seem to be at a plateau. I am not hungry, so I am not overeating, and I am aware of eating to keep my body active, but there has been no weight change. I want to get to my ideal weight and then need advice on how to maintain that weight. I take vitamins to help with hair, skin and nails, and others have complimented me on how I look. It is not vanity, I just do not want to look worn out or haggard with weight loss.

Simple Online Pharmacy are a wonderful company

Simple Online Pharmacy are a wonderful company with great ethics. While on my weight loss journey, other pharmacies have tried to constantly push products onto me and push me to buy higher and higher doses. Simple Online Pharmacy do not send anything to entice me to buy products. Instead, they send links offering support and information to help me support myself. I love the podcasts available on their YouTube channel and the calibre of the people they interview. Their prices are reasonable and easy to find without having to submit a ton of information first, and their shipping is exemplary. They are always my first port of call and always will be.

Wegovy pills are designed for adults living with obesity or who are overweight with a weight-related health condition.

Is the Wegovy pill right for me?

Wegovy pills are suitable for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above with at least one weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure, obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) or high cholesterol.

Wegovy pills are not suitable for everyone. Every assessment is thoroughly reviewed to ensure our patients’ safety.

If you have any concerns, health conditions or queries regarding the use of Wegovy, our clinician team are here to advise you every step of the way.

Results

In clinical trials, adults taking the 25mg Wegovy pill lost an average of 13.6% of their body weight over 64 weeks. Among those who stayed on treatment throughout, average weight loss rose to ~17%.

What results can you expect from Wegovy pills?

In the OASIS 4 clinical trial, adults taking the 25 mg Wegovy pill achieved an average of 13.6% over the 64 weeks. Participants who stayed on treatment throughout the study achieved an average of ~17% weight loss.

Breaking down the results:

  • 63% of participants lost 10% or more of their body weight

  • 30% of participants lost 20% or more of their body weight

  • Weight loss was accompanied by improvements in blood pressure, blood sugar control, and cholesterol levels

The results of oral Wegovy are comparable to those seen with the weekly Wegovy injection. Weight loss develops gradually over the course of treatment, with most people noticing meaningful visible changes from around 3 months onwards once the maintenance dose is reached.

Individual results depend on several factors including your starting weight, how well you tolerate the medication, and how consistently you maintain healthier eating patterns, increased physical activity and follow administration instructions.

Our clinical team will monitor your progress and adjust your treatment plan as needed to help you achieve your weight loss goals.

How to take and dosage

How to take Wegovy pills correctly, the Wegovy pill dosage schedule, and what to expect as your dose increases.

Wegovy pill dosage

Wegovy pills follow a gradual dose escalation schedule over 12 weeks to help your body adjust and minimise side effects:

Maintenance

Your prescriber will start you on the lowest dose and increase it every 30 days as tolerated.

If you experience persistent side effects on Wegovy pills at any stage, your prescriber may adjust the schedule or recommend stepping down to a lower dose or switching to the weekly Wegovy injection at a lower equivalent dose.

The 25 mg maintenance dose is designed for long-term use. Weight regain often happens when treatment stops before healthy habits are fully established, which is why ongoing support from our clinical team helps you maintain your progress.

Wegovy pill missed doses

Missing a dose occasionally happens, and it's important to know how to get back on track safely.

If you miss a dose:

  • Skip the missed dose entirely - do not take it later in the day

  • Resume your normal schedule the next morning

  • Do not take two tablets the following day to make up for the missed dose

If you vomit after taking your tablet, do not take another dose. Resume your normal schedule the next morning.

If you miss multiple doses or are unsure what to do, contact our clinical team for guidance.

How to take the Wegovy pill

Taking the Wegovy pill correctly ensures the medication is absorbed properly.

Follow these steps every day:

  • Take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, as soon as you wake up.

  • Use no more than 120 ml (4 oz) of plain water - not sparkling, flavoured, or hot water.

  • Swallow the tablet whole - do not crush, chew, or split the tablet.

  • Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything, or taking any other medications or supplements.

  • Take it at the same time each day for consistent results.

  • Keep tablets in their blister packs until you are ready to take them. Do not transfer them to a pill organiser box, as this can expose them to moisture.

The 30-minute fasting window is critical. Food, coffee, juice, or other medications taken too soon can interfere with absorption and reduce how well the medication works, or stop it working altogether.

If you take other medications in the morning, set an alarm to remind yourself when the fasting period ends.

Wegovy pill comparisons

The Wegovy pill is one of several weight loss treatments available. Here is how it compares to the alternatives on weight loss, format, and safety.

Wegovy pill vs Foundayo

Foundayo is a once-daily oral GLP-1 pill made by Eli Lilly, FDA-approved in April 2026. Like the Wegovy pill, it targets GLP-1 receptors to reduce appetite and slow digestion - but it is a small molecule drug that does not require SNAC coating, meaning it can be taken with food at any time of day.

Key differences:

  • Weight loss: the Wegovy pill produced 13.6% average weight loss over 64 weeks in OASIS 4. Foundayo produced 11.2% over 72 weeks in ATTAIN-1. An indirect comparison (ORION) found roughly 3 percentage points more weight loss with the Wegovy pill

  • Convenience: Foundayo has no fasting rules. The Wegovy pill requires a 30-minute fast every morning

  • Safety record: Oral semaglutide with SNAC technology has been used in the diabetes tablet Rybelsus since 2020, giving it over five years of real-world data. Foundayo is newer with less long-term evidence

What our clinical pharmacist says

Interest in GLP-1 tablets is growing quickly, and it’s easy to see why, many people would prefer a tablet over a weekly injection.

Oral semaglutide is already well established for treating type 2 diabetes, and research into its use for weight management has shown promising results. The recent MHRA approval of Wegovy tablets marks an important step forward in obesity treatment, giving patients a licensed oral alternative to weekly injections.

If you’re considering GLP-1 treatment now, the options available are injectable. At Simple Online Pharmacy, we can assess whether a safe and appropriate treatment is right for you.

Wegovy pill side effects

The most common side effects including nausea, vomiting, and constipation tend to be mild to moderate. They are most likely during initiation and dose increases and improve for most people once the maintenance dose is reached.

Digestive side effects

Digestive side effects are the most common with Wegovy pills, affecting nearly three in four participants in the OASIS 4 trial. Based on trial data, reported rates on the 25 mg dose compared to placebo were:

Side effect

Wegovy pill (25 mg)

Placebo

Nausea

18.6%

Vomiting

30.9%

17-31%

9-15%

Stomach pain or bloating

18-20%

8-10%

Heartburn

~10%

~3%

Nausea is typically the first to appear, usually within the first few days of starting or increasing your dose and is often the first to ease. Eating smaller meals, avoiding fatty or spicy food, and not lying down after eating can all help.

For a full breakdown of what to expect and how to manage digestive symptoms, see our Wegovy pill side effects guide.

Constipation affects around 1 in 5 people and can persist longer than nausea. Increasing fibre intake and staying well hydrated helps. If it persists, contact our clinical team.

Other common side effects

Alongside digestive symptoms, other common side effects of Wegovy pills include:

  • Headache

  • Fatigue

  • Dizziness

  • Hair loss

These are most likely during dose escalation and tend to improve over time.

Headaches, dizziness, and fatigue are often linked to eating less or mild dehydration rather than a direct effect of the medication.

Hair loss, where it occurs, is more likely a response to rapid weight loss than to the medication itself and typically regrows once weight stabilises.

Dehydration

Staying well hydrated is important for everyone taking GLP-1 treatments. GLP-1 treatments reduce appetite, which can mean you drink less without realising it - and when combined with vomiting or diarrhoea, dehydration becomes a real clinical risk.

Aim for at least 1.5 to 2 litres of water daily. Good hydration also supports your weight management by helping regulate appetite and energy levels.

Signs of dehydration to watch for:

  • Dark urine

  • Dry mouth

  • Dizziness

  • Feeling lightheaded

Increase your fluid intake during dose escalation if you are experiencing digestive symptoms. If you cannot keep fluids down, call NHS 111 rather than waiting for symptoms to pass.

Less common but serious side effects

Serious side effects from Wegovy pills are uncommon, but some require immediate action. Do not wait to see if these symptoms pass on their own.

  • Pancreatitis: severe stomach pain that spreads to your back, with or without vomiting, may be a sign of pancreatitis. In January 2026, the MHRA strengthened its warnings on pancreatitis risk for all GLP-1 medicines after rare reports of severe and fatal cases. It may also present as high temperature.

    • If you experience these symptoms, stop Wegovy pills immediately and go to A&E.

  • Sudden vision changes (NAION): in February 2026, the MHRA issued a safety warning linking semaglutide to NAION, a rare eye condition that can cause sudden painless vision loss in one eye.

    • Go to your nearest eye casualty unit or A&E urgently if you notice any sudden change in your vision.

  • Gallbladder problems: Around 2.5% of people on the Wegovy pill developed gallstones in OASIS 4, compared to 1% on placebo. Watch for upper right abdominal pain, nausea, and fever.

    • Contact your GP or our clinical team if you experience these symptoms.

  • Thyroid changes: Wegovy pills are not suitable for anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2).

    • Tell your prescriber before starting treatment if this applies to you.

  • Kidney injury: While Wegovy pills do not directly damage the kidneys, severe dehydration caused by vomiting or diarrhoea can. This is why staying hydrated throughout treatment is a clinical priority, not just comfort advice.

Long-term safety

Semaglutide has an established safety record at lower doses used for type 2 diabetes. The SELECT trial, which followed over 17,600 adults for more than three years, found Wegovy reduced the risk of serious heart health events by 20% in people with obesity and established heart disease.

The 25 mg weight management dose is newer, and long-term data at this dose is still emerging. Our clinical team monitors your progress throughout treatment and will flag any concerns.

When to seek urgent medical help

Call 999 or go to A&E if you experience:

  • Severe stomach pain spreading to your back. May present a high temperature - possible pancreatitis

  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing - possible allergic reaction

  • Sudden vision loss or rapid blurring in one eye - possible NAION

  • New or worsening thoughts of self-harm or suicide - or call the Samaritans on 116 123 at any time

Call NHS 111 if you:

  • Cannot stop vomiting or cannot keep fluids down

  • Are unsure whether a side effect needs urgent attention

  • Experience dizziness, shakiness, or confusion, particularly if you take diabetes medication

See your GP the same day if you:

  • Notice yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes

  • Have persistent or worsening low mood or anxiety

If you are unsure at any point, our clinical team is here to help before you consider stopping Wegovy pills.

Important safety information

Before starting treatment, your prescriber will review your full medical history to confirm the medication is safe and appropriate for you.

Wegovy pill contraindications and interactions

Do not take Wegovy pills if you:

  • Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2)

  • Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding – all GLP-1 medication should be stopped at least 2 months before attempting to conceive

  • Are allergic to semaglutide, SNAC coating, or any other ingredient in the tablet

  • Have severe gastroparesis or significant gastrointestinal disease

  • Have a history of vision problems related to your diabetes

  • Have pancreatitis

Tell your prescriber about any medication you are taking including vitamins , supplements and over the counter medications, particularly if you take any of the following:

  • Levothyroxine: thyroid hormone levels should be monitored

  • Warfarin or other anticoagulants: oral Wegovy may affect INR through dietary changes and changes in gastric motility

  • Anti-epilepsy medicines: some epilepsy medicines such as phenytoin require careful monitoring as they have a narrow dosing range

  • Ciclosporin: narrow therapeutic index; dose timing may need adjustment

  • Other morning medications: any oral medication requiring rapid absorption should be taken at least 30 minutes after the Wegovy pill, once the fasting window has passed

The primary interaction concern with oral Wegovy is the slowing of gastric emptying, which can affect how quickly other medications are absorbed. For a full list of interactions, the emc Wegovy SmPC and NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service are the recommended clinical references.

Wegovy pill and contraception

Wegovy does not reduce the effectiveness of combined oral contraceptives. A dedicated absorption study confirmed that the medication does not meaningfully affect the absorption of the hormones in the contraceptive pill.

However, because the Wegovy pill requires a 30-minute fasting window after taking it, your contraceptive pill should be taken at least 30 minutes after your Wegovy pill to avoid any effect on absorption timing.

If you experience recurrent vomiting during treatment, speak to our clinical team about whether additional contraceptive precautions are advisable during that period.

Storage & travel

Wegovy pills are room temperature stable, making them straightforward to store and travel with compared to the injectable Wegovy pen, which requires refrigeration.

Switching to or from Wegovy pills

If you are currently on a weight loss injection and considering switching to Wegovy pills, here is what to expect.

Switching from Wegovy injections to the Wegovy pill

Switching between the Wegovy pill and injection is straightforward as both contain semaglutide. Novo Nordisk have confirmed that the 25 mg pill is equivalent to the 2.4 mg weekly injection, giving a clear dose equivalence starting point.

If you are on the 1.7 mg injection or above, you can switch directly to the 25 mg maintenance pill. For patients on lower doses, the equivalent Wegovy pill dose is:

Wegovy injection dose

7.2 mg, 2.4 mg or 1.7 mg

25 mg

0.5 mg or 1 mg

9 mg

0.25 mg

4 mg

-

1.5 mg

Switching from the 2.4 mg or 7.2 mg injection to the 25 mg pill:

  • Take your final injection as normal

  • Wait seven days (the day you would normally take your next injection)

  • Start the 25 mg Wegovy pill the following week, After the 7 day wait start the daily 25mg Wegovy pill. If you take your last injection on a Monday you can start the Wegovy pill the following Monday

  • Taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with no more than 120 ml of plain water

  • Wait 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other medications

The daily fasting routine is what most people find harder than the medication change itself.

Speak to our clinical team if you are unsure which format suits you best.

Switching from the Wegovy pill back to injections

When switching from the pill back to an injectable - whether Wegovy or Mounjaro - a more cautious approach is needed. Because the pill has lower and more variable bioavailability (absorption into the bloodstream) than a subcutaneous injection, the transition to a more stable delivery route carries a higher risk of side effects if dose equivalence is applied directly. If you experienced side effects on the pill, your prescriber will start you at a lower injection dose.

Wegovy pill to Mounjaro

Mounjaro targets both GLP-1 and GIP receptors. Patients switching from the Wegovy pill will be GIP-naive, meaning the GIP action of Mounjaro is new to your system. For this reason, the switch is more conservative than the equivalent injection-to-pill journey.

Switching from Mounjaro to the Wegovy pill

Mounjaro and Wegovy work differently - Mounjaro targets both GLP-1 and GIP receptors, Wegovy targets GLP-1 only - so there is no direct dose conversion from Mounjaro's mechanism. Equivalent doses have been extrapolated from Wegovy injection equivalence data.

Most patients on higher doses of Mounjaro - 7.5 mg or higher - may switch directly to the 25 mg maintenance pill.

Key things to know before switching:

  • Washout period: allow one full week (7 days) between your last Mounjaro injection and your first Wegovy pill to avoid overlapping side effects

  • Weight loss: expect slightly less than Mounjaro on average. The SURMOUNT-5 trial found Mounjaro 15 mg produced ~22.5% average body weight loss. The Wegovy pill 25 mg produced and average body weight loss os ~17% in the OASIS 4 trial, in line with the injection

  • Hunger during the gap: appetite typically increases between stopping Mounjaro and reaching the Wegovy maintenance dose, but usually settles within a couple of months

What happens when I pre-order Wegovy pills?

When you pre-order Wegovy pills you will need to complete our patient assessment form which normally takes around 5 minutes. At the end of the form, if you are eligible, you will be able to place your order and make your payment.

Our clinical team will check your assessment details, and once you have been approved your payment will be processed. At this point, your place in line for the Wegovy pills will be confirmed.

When will I receive my order?

We are expecting Wegovy pills to be delivered to us by the manufacturer in a few weeks and delivery to start in July. As soon as we have more information about the delivery we will let you know.

Once we have received stock into our warehouse we will start dispatching to our patients on a first come, first served basis.

We are expecting a huge peak in demand for Wegovy pills so we recommend orders are placed as early as possible. We will keep patients informed every step of the way on their expected delivery date.
