Common questions about our men’s health treatments and how our service works.
Erectile dysfunction can have many different causes, including physical ones like blood pressure problems, heart disease, diabetes and weight gain. Side effects from medication can also cause ED.
However, the psychological causes of ED can be just as important. Stress, depression and anxiety can all affect your sexual performance. Many men suffer from performance anxiety, specifically linked to sex.
ED tablets like Viagra and Cialis tend to work best for men with physical issues. They help increase blood flow to the penis, making it easier to achieve and maintain an erection. Some men may also find that they need a higher strength of their chosen medication; dosage is not a one-size-fits-all.
For psychological issues, tablets can help you get over some of the hurdles, but do not address the root cause of the issue. Therapy, whether on your own or with your partner, can be an excellent step towards helping with your ED.
Most tablets for erectile dysfunction are a type of medication called a PDE-5 inhibitor. PDE-5 is a hormone in your body that tightens your blood vessels, controlling your blood pressure throughout the day.
PDE-5 inhibitors prevent this from happening, meaning more blood can flow around your body. When you are aroused, your body chooses to allow more blood to flow into the penis; combined with a PDE-5 inhibitor, that means you are far more likely to achieve and maintain an erection.
Male pattern hair loss has a definite cause. As your body produces testosterone, it also converts that testosterone into a compound called DHT.
DHT shrinks your hair follicles, causing them to get less blood flow and die off. Treatments such as Propecia help to reduce the amount of testosterone you produce, meaning you will lose less hair. Treatments such as Regaine work slightly differently, directly increasing blood flow to the scalp when applied.
Other causes of hair loss can include stress, medication side effects and losing weight too quickly.
When hair follicles are lost, the blood flow to them is stopped. This means the cells will die off, and once that happens, they can’t be brought back.
Some patients may notice new growth when they first start treatment. This is caused by follicles that haven’t quite fully died off receiving a new blood supply, which can make it seem like new hair growth.
There are a number of potential factors that can contribute to PE. From psychological factors (such as depression and anxiety) to physical ones (from stress levels to other health concerns), the causes can vary. Similarly, many men may find they experience PE infrequently, or only under certain circumstances (such as after drinking).
