What is Silandyl?

Silandyl is a discreet, easy to use treatment for men with erectile dysfunction. Rather than a pill, Silandyl comes as an orodispersible film that melts on your tongue.

One Silandyl film is just as effective as a pill. Silandyl contains sildenafil, the same active ingredient as Viagra. This means that Silandyl is as effective as Viagra, just in a more convenient and discreet delivery method.

How Silandyl works

Silandyl contains sildenafil citrate, a PDE-5 inhibitor. PDE-5 is an enzyme your body releases that causes blood vessels to constrict. Sildenafil blocks PDE-5, making it easier for blood to flow around your body. In the penis, this means more blood can enter, making it easier to achieve and maintain an erection.

Silandyl dissolvable films are designed to melt on your tongue, while still delivering a full dose of treatment.

Like other treatments for erectile dysfunction, Silandyl requires sexual arousal to work. Arousal triggers the signals that cause the penis to fill with blood. Without this, you will not see results.

How to take Silandyl

Stick one film to your tongue and allow it to melt with saliva at least an hour before sex. Silandyl orodispersible films are designed to be taken without water, but you can also take with water if you wish.

You can take Silandyl with or without food, but if you take Silandyl after food it can delay the onset of effects.

Silandyl dosage

Silandyl is available in 4 strengths; 25mg, 50mg, 75mg and 100mg. We advise a starting dose of 50mg, and then you can adjust the dose according to response.

Higher doses come with a higher chance of side effects, and they may be more severe as well.

Silandyl side effects

The most common side effects of Siladyl may include;

  • Flushing, red or warm skin
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Congested or runny nose
  • Nausea, diarrhoea or upset stomach
  • Muscle pain
  • Blurred vision

These effects will pass as the drug leaves your system. Some of the side effects of sildenafil may get better as your body gets used to the medication.

If you experience any of the following side effects, stop taking Silandyl immediately and seek urgent medical assistance;

  • An erection that will not go away (priapism). If you have an erection that lasts more than 4 hours, seek medical help immediately. Priapism can permanently damage your penis.
  • Sudden vision loss in one or both eyes. Sudden vision loss in one or both eyes can be a sign of a serious eye disease called non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). Stop taking Sildenafil and seek urgent medical assistance right away if you have sudden vision loss in one or both eyes.
  • Sudden hearing decrease or hearing loss. Some people may also have ringing in their ears (tinnitus) or dizziness. If you experience these symptoms, stop taking Sildenafil and contact a doctor right away.

For a full list of side effects, please read the patient information leaflet.

Who shouldn’t use Silandyl

Some people won’t be suitable for sildenafil because of their medical history or current health.

When you complete the online assessment, please declare all relevant medical conditions, eye problems, heart or circulation conditions, and any recent serious events (such as a heart attack or stroke), and list all medicines you take. A prescriber will review your answers and will only approve treatment if it’s safe and appropriate for you.

Silandyl ED treatment alternatives

While many patients use sildenafil medications, it may not be the best for them. Cialis (or Tadalafil) provides a longer-lasting effect, (around 36 hours) making it easier to be spontaneous.

Other PDE5 inhibitors, such as Vardenafil and Avanafil are also available.

Sex counselling can also help some men with ED. If you think your ED is psychological, therapy may provide long term benefits if successful.
