Branded Viagra
Branded Viagra tablets are the original 'little blue pill'. treatment for erectile dysfunction which was made by the US drug company, Pfizer. These tablets contain the drug Sildenafil Citrate, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. You may see us abbreviate erectile dysfunction as ED throughout the website.
The branded form of the drug also has a patent over the unique light-blue diamond-shaped pill. It was this shape and colour which became so familiar to men across the world. While you will pay more to be prescribed the branded tablets, many men are familiar with the original tablets. For this reason, some men still choose to be prescribed the original branded medication, instead of the generic.
Generic Viagra
Tablets which are referred to as “Cheap Viagra”, usually refer to the generic version of the drug. These contain the active ingredient Sildenafil. Pfizer, the company that produces Viagra, had its patent for this drug expire in 2013 in the UK.
This change opened the market for other companies to make Sildenafil for men, and helped make 'generic viagra' a cheaper alternative. This generic version has become the more widely prescribed medication for cost-saving reasons. This is the version of the drug which the NHS recommends GPs to prescribe. While it is medically equivalent to the original, it is significantly cheaper.
The medicine manufacturing industry is rigorously regulated. This means that you can be confident that the generic form contains exactly the same ingredient and amount as Viagra itself. Viagra, however, remains a popular choice of treatment for erectile dysfunction, although Sildenafil provides patients with a more affordable option.
While generic sildenafil provides a cheap alternative to Viagra, it may not always be best suited to your needs. Levitra (or Vardenafil) is the most suitable treatment for men who suffer from diabetes. Meanwhile, Cialis (or Tadalafil), provides a longer-lasting effect.

Viagra Information
How Does it Work?
Viagra belongs to a family of medicines called PDE5 inhibitors. These PDE5 inhibitors help in erectile dysfunction by increasing the blood flow in the blood vessels of the penis when sexually stimulated. An erection relies on a strong flow of blood into the penis. As a result, this increased blood flow helps men who may struggle to achieve an erection normally.
It does not improve libido, only impotence. This means it helps men to get and maintain an erection when sexually aroused. This means sexual stimulation is still required for Viagra to work.
Why Choose Viagra?
Viagra is the most recognised erection pill across the world, as it was the first pill on the market for this purpose. Its recognisable blue diamond shape has become almost synonymous with the drug since it was released in 1998. Pfizer, in fact, has the exclusive use of this diamond-shaped blue pill, to protect their brand.
It is effective in over 80% of men and is generally safe for most men to take. It is therefore a common and popular choice for men seeking treatment for erectile dysfunction.
Does Viagra work?
It has been shown in trials to work in around 83% of men. The effects of Viagra will last 4 to 6 hours. There are certain things you can do to make sure you are getting the full benefit of Viagra:
- You should not drink when taking Viagra.
- You should maintain a healthy lifestyle. Obesity can affect performance and may render Viagra ineffective.
Recommended using at least 4 times before you consider changing medicine. Increasing from 50mg to 100mg may be required, or you may need to try an alternative ED medicine.
There can be underlying causes of ED which Viagra for men will not overcome. Examples of these are in cases where someone has suffered a serious spinal injury that has resulted in nerve damage. If you have an underlying condition and have tried Viagra without success, you should seek additional treatment options from your GP.
Viagra Alternatives
Psychological causes of erectile dysfunction may benefit from counselling therapies. If nerves are the primary cause of erectile dysfunction, psychologists can help in developing strategies to stay calm. This can allow you to better deal with the situations which cause your stress or anxiety.
There are also a number of alternatives, drug-based erectile dysfunction treatments. These include:
Apart from treatments, you can also look at how your lifestyle may be affecting your erectile dysfunction. Obesity, smoking, and drinking can all negatively impact your ability to get and maintain an erection. You may wish to consider reducing your alcohol intake and exercising to help improve your overall health.
Misuse
All ED medications should be taken for therapeutic purposes only. Misuse of prescription medication can result in significant side effects. This is particularly true if they are taken in conjunction with other drugs, whether prescribed or otherwise. 'Recreational' use of Viagra to enhance sexual performance when you are already able to achieve a sufficient erection, should be avoided.
The supply of Viagra for men and any prescription medication is for personal use only, and should not be shared. You should take it as directed by your doctor or pharmacist, and avoid any advice encountered in forums about combination use.
Female Viagra
Many people think that Viagra also works for women. No clinical trials have shown that Viagra is effective in increasing sex drive in women. The medication is not licensed for use in women in the UK, Europe or the USA.
Treatment has been developed to address the issue of low sexual desire in women. Addyi, the name of the drug, is currently only available in the USA.
Viagra Myths
As there is so much misinformation online about any topic, it’s important to establish the facts.
There are several misconceptions online surrounding Viagra. These myths and misconceptions can lead to health issues and have serious consequences. So to help establish facts and bust the myths, here are some things to be aware of:
- Viagra can help men achieve and maintain an erection, it DOES NOT cause sexual stimulation or increase your sex drive.
- Viagra DOES NOT work immediately. It will take 30-60 minutes until the drug has been absorbed into your system.
- Viagra DOES NOT give men an erection for hours on end. If it does, you should seek medical help. It will give you an erection in the presence of a sexual stimulus.

FAQ
Viagra FAQ
How Does it Work?
Viagra is a class of drug (like Cialis / Tadalafil); known as a PDE-5 inhibitor. When sexually stimulated, it helps increase the flow of blood to the penis which results on longer and harder erections.
How much is it?
The price of Viagra from genuine UK online pharmacies can vary. It can be between £5.25 / tablet, to £15.30 / tablet, depending on the quantity and the strength. You can also purchase Generic Viagra from £1.10 / tablet
What Is The Difference Between Viagra and Sildenafil
Medically there is no difference between these two ED treatments. Viagra is the branded version of the drug Sildenafil. In other words, the active ingredient is the same in both medicines. You will notice the packaging and the tablets themselves will appear different.
Pfizer actually owns the right to use the blue diamond shape tablet exclusively, so you will not see other ED treatments which look the same as this.
Can it be taken with other ED medication?
No. Viagra and other ED medications are all from the same class of drug (PDE5 inhibitors). Taking them together can be dangerous and result in serious adverse side effects. This includes the possibility of a painful erection that lasts several hours and can result in damage to the penis. For this reason, it's important to always take the medications you are prescribed as directed.
Is Viagra the 'blue pill'?
Yes. Its well-known nickname is the blue pill due to its colour.
Will Viagra Always Work?
Unfortunately not. It has been shown to work in around 83% of cases. When it doesn't work, the advice is to try it on 4-5 more occasions before trying something else. Another treatment may work better for you.
Although they all work in the same way, different people can respond differently to the slight variations in chemical structure in each of the drugs available. So while Sildenafil may not work for you, Tadalafil might. This does not mean one is stronger or better than the other.
Can I halve Viagra tablets?
Viagra tablets are scored, allowing you to easily half them before taking them. This can help you in finding the right dose, or in saving money on the tablets. The only exception to this is the 25mg tablets, which should not be split.
If you do decide to split tablets, you should place the unused half back in the silver foil to prevent degradation of the tablet. Tablet degradation can result in the loss of effectiveness of the medication.
Can I Drink While Taking Viagra?
While there is no chemical interaction between alcohol and Viagra, alcohol can increase the symptoms of erectile dysfunction, so it is recommended to avoid drinking or drink only 1-2 units. This will make sure you get the full benefit of the medication. Excess alcohol consumption can also increase the chances of experiencing side effects, particularly related to blood pressure.
How long does Viagra take to work?
You should take it around 45 minutes before sexual activity if taken on an empty stomach. If you have eaten, take it approximately 60-90 minutes before sexual activity. For further details, you can read 'How long does Viagra take to work'. Remember that sexual stimulation is required for Viagra to work, so you should only take it when planning on having sex.
How long does Viagra last?
Viagra will last between 4-6 hours. You can find more details in 'How long does Viagra last'.
Is Viagra Legal in the UK?
Yes. It can be bought both over the counter, as Viagra Connect, or obtained on prescription, as Viagra. If you place an order via our site and our doctors approve the request, a prescription is issued to our pharmacy to dispense against. If ordering from your pharmacy, you will still need to complete a medical check with your pharmacist to make sure it's safe for you to use the treatment.
Can I Get Viagra On the NHS?
Only in some circumstances and usually in the form of its generic (Sildenafil). The medication may be prescribed on the NHS in men who suffer from certain medical conditions. Examples of some of these conditions include diabetes, Parkinson's and men diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Is Generic Viagra The Same?
"Generic Viagra” is the drug Sildenafil. This is the active ingredient of Viagra. As long as you are ordering the Sildenafil from a reliable source (a UK registered pharmacy), then these medications are medically equivalent. While the appearance will be different, the effects should be the same. Find out in more detail in 'Sildenafil vs Viagra'.

Can You Buy Viagra Over The Counter in the UK?
Yes. It is now available in the UK over the counter, as Viagra Connect. Details comparing the two are found in 'Viagra vs Viagra Connect'.

You can compare our prices to many large competitors by reading Cheapest Viagra.
The main variance in price is between Viagra and "Generic Viagra". The generic is the drug Sildenafil, which is the active ingredient in Viagra. Essentially the difference in price is for the brand, as medically each medication is the same.

Directions
Viagra Dosage
Unless you're over 65 years of age, Viagra 50mg is the most commonly prescribed starting dose for men with ED. ONE tablet is taken between half an hour to an hour before sexual activity. This dose is ideally taken on an empty stomach and without alcohol to maximise benefits.
If the dose is ineffective, you should NOT take another dose for at least 24 hours. The next time you try it, you may wish to increase your dose to 100mg instead.
If the dose is very effective, you may wish to half your dosage to 25mg the next time you take Viagra. This can be done either by purchasing 25mg tablets or halving your 50mg pills.

Warnings
Viagra Warnings and Precautions
Nitrates
There is a potentially lethal reaction with nicorandil or other nitrate medications. If you use medicines for angina such as isosorbide mononitrate or GTN spray, you are unable to use Viagra. If taken together, blood pressure may decrease dramatically and lead to a heart attack.
Speak to your GP for further advice.
Alpha-blockers
Alpha-blocking medicines for high blood pressure, such as tamsulosin or alfuzosin, interact with Viagra. They can cause a significant decrease in blood pressure. You should see your GP, because the 25mg strength may be most suitable for a patient taking alpha-blockers.
You should leave a minimum six-hour period between taking Viagra and an alpha-blocker. If you're not sure, speak to your GP for medical advice.
