Novo Nordisk has changed their recommendations for delivery. This comes after receiving approval from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
This means that Wegovy FlexiTouch pens can be delivered without a cold-chain process for up to 48 hours, so long as they remain below 30°C. When storing at home, the advice is unchanged — store your pen in the body (not back or shelf) of the fridge until ready to use. Then once in use you can store it in the fridge or at room temperature from first use for the 6 week window.
Key points: what you need to know
- Wegovy FlexTouch pens can now be transported at up to 30°C for a maximum of 48 hours during delivery.
- This change only affects delivery. You must still store Wegovy in the fridge at 2–8°C at home, unless the pen is in use, in which case you can store it in the fridge or room temperature for up to 6 weeks.
- Your pen may arrive cool or at room temperature and still be within approved conditions, as long as it was delivered on time and kept below 30°C in transit.
- If your parcel was delayed beyond 48 hours or exposed to high heat, contact us before using the pen.
- This update is direct from Novo Nordisk, based on MHRA-approved product information for Wegovy FlexTouch Pens.
Your delivery
How will my medication be delivered?
As per existing Wegovy deliveries, delivery will be via Royal Mail 24, allowing you to track your delivery. Please read our Delivery page for more details.
Why did my Wegovy FlexiTouch pen arrive warm or unchilled?
Your Wegovy pen may arrive at room temperature because we now use an MHRA-approved controlled-temperature delivery method.
In April 2026, the MHRA approved an update allowing Wegovy FlexTouch pens to be transported at temperatures below 30°C for up to 48 hours during the final delivery stage from our pharmacy to your home. This is safe and does not affect the quality or effectiveness of your medication. It will also not affect the expiry date, if you place it in the fridge once received.
Is it safe to use Wegovy that wasn't delivered cold?
Yes, it is completely safe. Wegovy pens delivered within 48 hours at temperatures below 30°C meet all UK regulatory standards and maintain their full effectiveness.
This controlled-temperature delivery method is specifically approved by the MHRA for the pharmacy-to-patient delivery stage. The medication inside your pen remains stable and safe to use.
What if my delivery was delayed beyond 48 hours?
If you believe your delivery took longer than 48 hours from dispatch, or if the packaging feels excessively hot, please contact us before using the pen.
We'll assess your specific situation and arrange a replacement if needed. Do not use a pen if you have concerns about its storage conditions during delivery until you speak with us.
Does this change how I store Wegovy FlexiTouch pen at home?
No, your home storage instructions remain exactly the same. The 48-hour controlled-temperature delivery only applies to the journey from our pharmacy to your door. When your pen arrives, place it in the body of the fridge straight away.
Once you receive your Wegovy pen:
- Store unopened pens in your fridge at 2°C to 8°C until you're ready to start using them
- Keep pens in their original box to protect them from light
- Follow the standard in-use storage guidance once you've started your treatment
The delivery update does not change any patient storage rules.
Do bundle or multi-pen orders follow the same rules?
Yes, all pens in your order share the same 48-hour delivery window. Whether you've ordered a single pen or a multi-pen bundle, the entire shipment follows the same controlled-temperature delivery guidelines. All pens in your parcel are transported together under the same approved conditions.
Does the 48-hour delivery window start my room-temperature storage clock?
No, the delivery time does not count towards your in-use storage time. The 48-hour window is only for transit from our pharmacy to your home. Your pen's room-temperature storage clock only starts when you remove it from the fridge to begin using it, not when we dispatch it or when you receive it.
Storing Wegovy FlexiTouch pen at home
Where should I store my Wegovy FlexiTouch pen before I start using it?
Store unopened Wegovy pens in your fridge at 2°C to 8°C until you're ready to use them. Keep your pens in their original packaging to protect them from light, and place them in the main body of your fridge, away from the cooling element or freezer compartment.
Do not store pens in the fridge door, as the temperature fluctuates more there.
When stored correctly in the fridge, your unopened Wegovy pens will last until the expiry date printed on the medication box and pen label.
How long can I keep a Wegovy FlexiTouch pen out of the fridge once I've started using it?
Once you've started using your pen, you can keep it at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 6 weeks. After 6 weeks at room temperature, you must discard the pen, even if it still contains medication and looks normal. You can also continue storing your in-use pen in the fridge at 2°C to 8°C if you prefer.
Always keep the cap on your pen when not injecting to protect it from light.
What if I forgot to refrigerate my Wegovy FlexiTouch pen?
If your unopened pen has been left at room temperature, contact us before using it. The storage requirements differ for unopened vs in-use pens, and we'll need to assess your specific situation to confirm the pen is still safe and effective.
If your Wegovy pen has been outside the fridge for more than 48 hours (below 30°C) it is recommended to use the pen within 6 weeks.
Can I put the Wegovy FlexiTouch pen back in the fridge after it's been at room temperature?
Yes, you can return your pen to the fridge after it has been at room temperature during transit (up to 48 hours) or while in use. If the pen is unopened, storing it in the fridge will keep it safe to use until the expiry date shown on the box. If the pen is already in use, it must be used within 6 weeks.
Can Wegovy FlexTouch pen freeze in my fridge?
Yes, Wegovy can freeze if your fridge is set too cold or if the pen is placed too close to the cooling element. Freezing permanently damages the medication. If your pen has been frozen, you must discard it immediately and must not use it, even if it looks normal after thawing. There is no way to tell if a thawed pen is still safe or effective.
To prevent freezing, store your pens in the main body of the fridge, away from the back wall and cooling element. Also avoid the fridge door shelf to keep a steady temperature.
What temperature is too hot for Wegovy FlexTouch pen?
Any temperature above 30°C is too hot for Wegovy. If your pen has been exposed to temperatures above 30°C (for example, near a radiator or in direct sunlight), you must discard it. High temperatures can damage the semaglutide protein and reduce the medication's effectiveness.
Wegovy FlexiTouch pen condition inspection
What should the Wegovy solution look like?
The solution inside your Wegovy pen should be clear and colourless. Before every injection, look through the pen window to check the solution's appearance. If the liquid looks as it should, it's safe to inject.
What do I do if the Wegovy solution looks cloudy or discoloured?
Do not use the pen if the solution appears cloudy, discoloured, or contains visible particles. This can indicate the medication has been damaged by temperature exposure, light, or freezing. Do not use the pen, keep hold of it and contact us to advise on next steps.
It's important to note that a damaged pen may still look clear and normal, so always follow proper storage guidelines even if the solution looks fine.
Can I inject Wegovy FlexiTouch pen cold from the fridge?
Yes, you can inject Wegovy straight from the fridge, but it may be less comfortable.
Many patients report stinging or burning at the injection site when injecting cold medication. The medication works just as well when cold, but letting it warm naturally to room temperature for 15 to 30 minutes before injecting may reduce discomfort.
Before using your pen, you may wish to take it out of the fridge and let it come to room temperature naturally. Please keep the cap on until you are ready to use it, and do not try to force or speed up the warming process.
Never use external heat sources like a microwave, hot water, radiator, or direct sunlight to warm your pen, as this can damage the medication.
Wegovy FlexiTouch pen concerns
My pen was left in a hot car — can I use it?
No, you should not use a pen that has been exposed to high temperatures. If your pen is exposed to temperatures exceeding 30°C, the medication may have been damaged.
Even if the solution still looks clear, heat exposure can reduce the medication's effectiveness in ways you cannot see.
If you think this may be the case, do not use the pen, keep hold of it and contact us to advise on next steps.
My pen may have frozen — what do I do?
Do not use a Wegovy pen if it has been frozen, even if it looks normal after thawing.
Freezing causes irreversible damage to the semaglutide protein structure, meaning the medication may be completely ineffective or potentially unsafe. There is no way to visually confirm whether a frozen and thawed pen is still safe to use.
My Wegovy FlexiTouch pen doesn't seem to be working — what do I do?
Stop using the pen and contact us if it is leaking, jammed, won't inject the medication, or if the dose counter isn't working properly. Do not try to repair or force a malfunctioning pen.
We'll help you troubleshoot the issue and advise on next steps. Keep the pen in its current condition so we can assess what happened.
Travelling with Wegovy FlexiTouch pen
Can I take a Wegovy FlexiTouch pen on a plane?
Yes, you can take a Wegovy pen on a plane. Wegovy is permitted in hand luggage as a prescription injectable medication and is exempt from the standard 100ml liquid restriction when accompanied by a prescription or doctor's letter.
Always carry a Wegovy FlexiTouch pen in your hand luggage rather than checked baggage, as cargo hold temperatures can drop below freezing during flight, which would permanently destroy the medication.
Do I need a prescription letter for airport security?
It's strongly recommended to carry a prescription or doctor's letter when flying with a Wegovy pen. While not always required, having documentation helps avoid delays at security checkpoints.
Declare your medication at the security checkpoint and have it available for inspection.
Before you travel, we strongly recommend contacting your airline to check what documentation, if any, you may need to carry your medication on board in your hand luggage.
If needed, we can provide a copy of your prescription. Simply email us in advance of your trip and we will send you a PDF copy, which you can print and take with you when you travel.
Can I put Wegovy FlexiTouch pen in checked baggage?
No, you should never put Wegovy in checked baggage. Cargo hold temperatures can drop well below freezing during flight, which would irreversibly destroy the semaglutide.
Freezing is one of the few conditions that causes permanent, irreversible damage to Wegovy. Always carry your Wegovy in hand luggage where cabin temperature is controlled.
How do I keep my Wegovy FlexiTouch pen at the right temperature while travelling?
Use an insulated travel case or cool bag with gel packs for journeys without fridge access. Make sure ice packs do not touch the pen directly, as this can freeze it. Keep your pen in its original packaging with the cap on, away from direct sunlight.
Once you reach your destination, place your pen in the body of the fridge to ensure your pen stays under 30°C.
Can Wegovy go in a cool bag without an ice pack?
Yes, an insulated cool bag alone can help maintain a stable temperature for short journeys. This is particularly useful if you're travelling somewhere with a fridge and just need to keep your pen cool in transit. For longer journeys without fridge access, gel packs (not touching the pen directly) provide better temperature control.
Expiry and disposal
How do I know if my Wegovy FlexiTouch pen has expired?
Check the expiry date printed on the packaging and pen label. Unopened Wegovy pens stored correctly in the fridge will last until this date.
Once you've started using a pen, use it within 6 weeks and store the pen under 30°C.
Do not use Wegovy past its expiry date or after 6 weeks at room temperature (below 30°C), whichever comes first.
How do I dispose of used Wegovy FlexiTouch pens safely?
You can recycle pens safely through Novo Nordisk's PenCycle scheme.
Alternatively, you can take the pens with your sharps bin to your local pharmacy for safe disposal. Do not throw used pens in your household rubbish or recycling.
If you don't have a sharps bin, you can purchase one from any pharmacy. Never reuse or share needles.
What do I do if my Wegovy FlexiTouch pen is broken or leaking before use?
Please check your pen on delivery before placing it in the fridge. If your pen arrives broken, leaking, or damaged, keep hold of it and contact us straight away.
If medication has leaked onto your skin, wash the area with soap and water. If you have concerns about exposure, contact NHS 111 for advice.
