Priligy is a medicine used to treat premature ejaculation (PE). It contains the active ingredient Dapoxetine which is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). According to studies, it can up to triple ejaculation time in some men and satisfied 80% of men with its results.

It comes in two strengths Priligy 30mg or Priligy 60mg. The starting dose is 30mg moving up to 60mg only if required after consulting a doctor.

It is estimated that about 1 in 3 men will experience premature ejaculation at some point in their life. Unfortunately, many men will not seek treatment due to feelings of embarrassment or inaccessibility to healthcare.

It can occur for a variety of physical or psychological reasons and may go away with time by addressing the underlying reasons or be lifelong.

PE is classified as a penetration ejaculation time of less than two minutes and a general lack of control over ejaculation. Occasional premature ejaculation is normal however if it occurs regularly over 6 months, medicines such as Priligy are suggested.

Ejaculation is strongly linked to the amount of serotonin in certain areas of the brain. Priligy (Dapoxetine) works by preventing the body from reabsorbing the serotonin in these areas, allowing it to have an effect on the body for longer. This effect delays the ejaculatory reaction in most men, preventing premature ejaculation.

Unlike many SSRIs medicines, which are typically used as antidepressants, Dapoxetine is quite different. It acts quickly, reaching its peak effect in about 1-3 hours and is eliminated quickly from the body, losing its effect in about 12 hours. This prevents any side effects from lingering when the medicine is not needed.

It is most effective when taken between 1-3 hours before sexual intercourse. One tablet should be swallowed whole 1-3 hours before sexual activity with a glass of water. It can be taken with or without food.

It should not be taken every day continuously. Only take a dose when required before sexual activity to avoid side effects. Never take more than one tablet within a 24 hour period.

It is recommended to take up to six doses of Priligy before deciding whether to continue treatment. Although they are generally effective, PE is caused by a multitude of factors that may be affecting you on a single use of Dapoxetine. If you experience no benefit after six doses, discuss 60mg Priligy tablets or alternative treatments with your doctor.

The most common Priligy side effects are nausea, headache and dizziness. It may also cause some people to feel faint or cause their blood pressure to drop when standing up. To reduce the likelihood of this happening, take your dose with a full glass of water to avoid a bitter taste and do not take a dose if you are dehydrated.

If you feel dizzy or faint after taking these tablets, you should not drive, operate heavy machinery or undertake hazardous activities. You should lie down or sit down with your head between your knees if you feel faint or lightheaded. This will stop you from falling and hurting yourself if you faint.

While Priligy is safe and effective for most men, there are those who may not be suitable for treatment. Patients over 65 years old are unable to use Priligy for safety reasons.

Men with certain medical conditions may not be suitable for treatment. Men with heart problems such as heart disease or heart failure should not take Priligy. Men with a history of fainting, liver problems, or a history of mental health problems such as mania or severe depression should also not take these tablets. You should not drink alcohol when taking Priligy as it may increase its side effects as well as have a negative impact on the time taken to ejaculate. Similarly, recreational drugs can also result in more profound side effects and faster ejaculation times.

There are a number of medicines that Priligy should not be mixed with. This includes antidepressants, lithium, tramadol, and migraine treatments.
