What is Gaviscon Advance?
Gaviscon Advance belongs to a group of medicines called "reflux suppressants". It relieves the pain and discomfort associated with acid reflux/ heartburn. It can also be used to relieve the symptoms of conditions such as protrusion of muscle through a muscle wall, inflamed food pipe and symptoms of hoarseness and other voice disorders, sore throat and cough associated with reflux.

How does Gaviscon Advance work?
This medicine forms a protective layer that floats on top of the stomach contents. This layer prevents reflux and keeps the stomach contents away from the lining of the food pipe to relieve the symptoms of heartburn and acid indigestion.

Directions
How to use Gaviscon Advance
Adults and children over 12 can take 5-10mL after meals and at bedtime (up to four times a day). Do not give to children under 12 years without medical advice.
If indigestion and heartburn symptoms persist after 7 days, consult your doctor.
Warnings
Warnings for Gaviscon Advance
Do not give this medicine to anyone under 12 years old without a recommendation from a health professional.
Do not take this treatment if you have any known allergies to any of the listed ingredients.
The concentration of sodium alginate increases the amount of salt in the body if taken regularly. At the maximum dose, it will make up 21% of the recommended daily intake of salt. If your doctor has limited your salt intake for health reasons such as a heart or kidney condition, do not take this medicine unless the doctor has been consulted.
The medicine also contains potassium and calcium. If your doctor has recommended limiting your daily intake of these, consult your doctor before using the medicine.
Other Medicines and Gaviscon Advance
Tell your doctor or pharmacist that you are taking this medicine if you take other medicines as it may affect the absorption of medicines such as tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, iron, and thyroid hormones. If you are on these treatments wait at least 2 hours between taking your medicine and Gaviscon.

Gaviscon Advance Ingredients
Every 10 ml of oral liquid contains 1000 mg sodium alginate and 200 mg potassium hydrogen carbonate as the active ingredients. The other ingredients are calcium carbonate, carbomer, methyl (E218) and propyl (E216) parahydroxybenzoates, sodium saccharin, sodium hydroxide, aniseed flavour derived from fennel and purified water.
