Practical Tips

Dry skin conditions can be difficult to deal with. Follow these quick tips to help make sure your skin is as protected as possible.

Change your environment - dry air can lead to dry skin. A humidifier can help to keep the air from drying out, and make sure to avoid cold air.
Use a gentle cleanser - many soaps can contain ingredients that cause skin irritation. Avoid soaps containing sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), as this is well known to cause irritation in sensitive skin. Fragrance-free and colouring-free products are often good for sensitive skin types.
Dry off carefully - when drying off with a towel, rubbing areas of dry skin can create more irritation. Rather than rubbing, try patting these areas dry.
Don’t scratch - itching is a common symptom of dry skin conditions. However tempting, avoid scratching wherever possible. Scratching can cause further damage to the skin, and lead to more problems. Try tapping the itchy area instead - this triggers the same nerve endings that scratching would, leading to relief without the possibility of further damage.
Avoid hot water - where possible, use warm water rather than hot. Hot water can strip the protective layer of oil from your skin, and can cause irritation to already delicate skin.
Avoid the sun - sun exposure and tanning can both cause further skin irritation. While some forms of UV treatment can be helpful to some skin conditions (such as psoriasis), this should be performed by a trained professional to avoid overexposure and further skin damage.

FAQ

How does Dermol Bath Emollient work?

Your skin produces sebaceous oils. These oils gather on the skin’s surface, allowing them to form a protective layer. In cases where a skin condition disrupts this layer of oil, the skin can dry out. This can lead to itching, flaking and even infection as the skin cracks.

Dermol 600 Bath Emollient replaces this oil layer. Using a mixture of liquid paraffin and isopropyl myristate, Dermol helps skin retain moisture, keeping skin soft and allowing it time to heal from dry skin conditions. It also allows your body to combat bacteria present on the skin, preventing infections that can make skin conditions, including eczema,  worse.

Does Dermol 600 contain any steroids?

Dermol 600 Bath Emollient does not contain steroids - instead, it uses a mix of liquid paraffin and isopropyl myristate, which allow it to moisturise and protect skin, while also keeping it clean and free from bacteria and other possible infection vectors.

Is Dermol 600 safe to use on my face?

In most cases, skin products that cannot be used on your face contain steroids. As Dermol 600 does not contain any corticosteroids, it should be safe to use on your face.
