How does Optrex Eye Wash work?

When irritants get into your eye, your body begins to react. The most common form of reaction is to produce more tears, leading to watering eyes, and swelling around the area, which forces the tears covering the eye out. This should make the irritant more likely to be swept out by the excess tears.

Optrex Eye Wash contains Witch Hazel Extract, a known astringent. This means that it forces the blood vessels in the eye to contract, reducing swelling and slowing the reactions that lead to itching, redness and irritation. The wash provides a mechanical sweep of the eye, helping to loosen any irritants that may be caught within.

How often can you use Optrex Multi-Action Eye Wash?

According to the manufacturer, Optrex Eye Wash can be used as often as needed. However, if you find that your eye irritation does not go away within 72 hours, stop using this product and seek medical attention. 

Optrex Multi-Action Eye Wash Side Effects

As with all medications, some users may experience side effects when using Optrex Eye Wash - however, most will not.

How To Use Optrex Multi-Action Eye Wash 

Rinse the eye bath with the product before use. If you are wearing contact lenses, remove them before using this product.

Fill with eye wash until a third full.  Bend head slightly forward, holding eye bath by its base. 

Place eye bath over your eye. Slowly raise your head, opening your eye so the eye wash flows freely over it. Gently rock your head from side to side for at least 30 seconds. Discard any eye wash left in the eye bath.  

Repeat these steps for your other eye if required. 

If the eye bath is likely to be used by more than one person, sterilise it by boiling it in water for 10 minutes between uses.

Only for use in the eyes. Safe for everyday use.

Warnings for use of Optrex Multi-Action Eye Wash 

Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the listed ingredients.

This product contains benzalkonium chloride, which may cause eye irritation. 

Benzalkonium chloride is known to discolour soft contact lenses. Remove any contact lenses prior to application and wait at least 15 minutes before re-insertion.
