Practical Tips
Sore eyes can be a painful condition to experience. Follow these simple tips to help keep sore eyes under control.
Avoid irritants - sunlight exposure, dust, grit and pollen are the most common causes of sore eyes. Wearing sunglasses when out and about and keeping an eye on the Pollen Index can both help to keep irritants out of your eyes, or help you figure out the safest times to be outside.
Avoid screens - exposure to artificial light, such as computer screens, TVs and phones can all cause sore eyes, especially late at night. Try to limit your exposure to these sources of artificial light, or take frequent breaks (at last 15 minutes every 4 hours) to reduce the effects.
Wear contacts less - contact lenses can cause irritation, especially if you are wearing them for long periods. Where possible, switch back to glasses, and be sure to give your eyes a chance to rest.
Keep hydrated - as your eyes are irritated, your body will attempt to produce more tears, to flush the irritants out from your eyes. Make sure to stay hydrated, otherwise, you may face gummy, sticky eyes.
Check your prescription - if you find that the pain is sharper, and doesn’t come with swelling or reddening of the eye, it may be eye strain, brought on by your eyes struggling to focus properly. This can be a result of tiredness, but it may be worth arranging an eye test to see if a new prescription is in order.

FAQ
What causes sore and bloodshot eyes?
Both sore and bloodshot eyes can have many different causes. The most common are irritants in the eye, including dust, grit and pollen. When these irritants get onto the surface of the eye, your body will try to remove them.
It does this by creating swelling around the eye, aiming to push the irritant to the surface, while also producing more tears to help “flush” the irritant out. This swelling causes the blood vessels of the eye to enlarge, leading to bloodshot eyes.
How do Optrex Sore Eye Drops work?
Optrex Sore Eye Drops contain witch hazel extract, a mild astringent. This acts to constrict the blood vessels in and around the eye, reducing swelling and redness, and helping to soothe and cleanse sore eyes.
How often can I use Optrex Sore Eye Drops?
Optrex Sore Eye Drops can be used as often as required. However, if you find that your symptoms have not cleared up after 72 hours, we advise speaking to your doctor or pharmacist. There may be an underlying reason for your condition.
