Practical Tips

Sunburn may seem like a minor inconvenience, but studies show that even getting sunburn as infrequently as every two years can triple your chances of contracting some types of skin cancer. Follow these simple tips to help combat sunburn;

Stay in the shade - where possible, avoid direct exposure to sunlight. The shade can provide protection from up to 75% of the sun’s rays. Wearing protective clothing, even just a light t-shirt and hat, can reduce the amount of skin exposed to direct sunlight, while sunglasses can prevent eye damage.
Keep track of the UV Level - the UV Index is a very useful tool to tell you how strong the sun will be on a given day. Use the UV Index to figure out if you should be packing sun cream just in case!
Don’t assume a day is safe - even on a cloudy day, 90% of the sun’s rays can still penetrate, meaning that overcast and even cloudy days can cause sunburn. Use the UV Index to keep track of how strong the sun is.
Keep check of your skin - if you have paler skin, or are prone to moles and other skin conditions, it is wise to keep track of any changes your skin undergoes, especially when you have been exposed to UV or sunburned. Even small, repeated exposure to UV can cause a benign mole to turn into something more serious.

FAQ

What is the difference between SPF 30 and SPF 50?

Sun creams come in a wide variety of formulas. The strength is often denoted with an SPF number. This is the cream’s Sun Protection Factor; if it takes 1 minute for unprotected skin to start turning red in the sun, the SPF is how much longer it would take when wearing it.

For example, an SPF 30 sun cream would allow you to go 30 times as long without your skin going red, while an SPF 50 cream would allow you to go 50 times as long without your skin turning red.

Each person will take a different amount of time for their sun to turn red in the sun; those with lighter skin will find their time is much shorter than someone with darker skin.

You can also find bronzing oils, which have a much lower SPF (as low as SPF 2). These are not suitable for paler skin tones, as they will not provide anywhere near enough protection, and in some cases can cause further problems.

Side Effects

Uvistat Sun Block Side Effects

As with all medications, some users may experience side effects when using Uvistat SPF 50 Sun Cream - however, most will not.

You may feel a tightening or drying of the skin. This is a minor side effect, often exacerbated by sun exposure.

Rare Side Effects may include;

  • Appearance or worsening of acne
  • Stinging, itching or burning of the skin
  • Early appearance of redness or swelling of the skin
  • Late appearance of rash with or without weeping blisters that become crusted, especially in sun-exposed areas, and may extend to unexposed areas of the skin
  • Pain in hairy areas
  • Pus in the hair follicles
