What is Voltarol 12 Hour Gel?
The gel is used to provide long lasting relief from pain and inflammation. It helps to relieve pain and reduce inflammation and swelling in various conditions affecting the muscles and joints.
The gel can be used for sports injuries, sprains, strains, aches and bruises. It can also be used to treat tendonitis, like tennis elbow. People also use Voltarol for knee pain and backache.
The gel contains the active ingredient diclofenac.
It may be called Voltarol 12 Hour Emulgel P 2.32% Gel or Voltarol 12 Hour Joint Pain Relief 2.32% Gel.
How does Voltarol work?
The active ingredient, diclofenac, belongs to a group of medicines known as NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). This group of drugs includes ibuprofen and naproxen. This group of drugs work by targeting pain and inflammation.
Diclofenac works by penetrating the skin, reaching inflamed areas (such as joints) and reducing inflammation and pain. The gel is a topical preparation which means it is particularly useful because it can be applied directly to the affected area of pain.
Is Voltarol joint pain relief gel effective?
The gel has been shown to reduce swelling, relieve pain, and shorten the time it takes to return to normal function (with sprains for example). One study looking at ankle sprains found that Voltarol significantly improved pain when moving after three days of treatment, compared to placebo. The study also found that ankle joint function was improved within 3 days of starting treatment.
What alternatives are there to Voltarol gel?
Paracetamol tablets can be taken alongside Voltarol gel to help relieve pain. However, you should not use this medicine with other NSAIDs like ibuprofen or naproxen. If you find that Voltarol isn’t effective for you, you can try other topical treatments instead like ibuprofen gel, Movelat gel or Flexiseq gel.
What painkiller is in Voltarol?
The gel contains the active ingredient diclofenac. This works as both a painkiller and anti-inflammatory medicine.
Is Fenbid Gel the same as Voltarol?
Fenbid Gel contains the active ingredient ibuprofen and isn’t the same as Voltarol. However, both gels belong to the same group of medicines and work in a similar way.
How quickly does Voltarol work?
You should apply the gel for several days to see if it’s effective for you. You should start to notice an effect within 1 or 2 days of using it.
