Mebeverine is a treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This is the drug in the well known IBS medication Colofac. It belongs to a group of medicines called anticholinergics.

How do you take Mebeverine?
Take one tablet three times a day. Try to take at least 20 minutes before food as symptoms of IBS often start after food. The tablets should be swallowed whole with water. You can lower the dose if your symptoms get better.
What are the side effects of Mebeverine?
Most people will not have problems, but some may get some side effects (unwanted effects or reactions).
If you get any of these serious side effects, stop taking the tablets. See a doctor at once:
Difficulty in breathing, swelling of face, neck, tongue or throat (severe allergic reactions)

Mebeverine doesn’t help constipation specifically. It helps with the symptoms of spasms in the stomach.
