How does it work?
Prochlorperazine is a type of medicine called a phenothiazine. It’s thought to improve nausea because it blocks the action of a chemical, dopamine, in the brain. This helps prevent messages being sent to the part of the brain thought to be responsible for nausea and vomiting.
Prochlorperazine can help prevent nausea and vomiting and can also improve symptoms if you’re currently experiencing nausea and vomiting.
Various medicines are available to help prevent or treat nausea and vomiting. Medicines like Hyoscine (Kwells), cinnarizine, and promethazine are used to aid travel sickness. For nausea associated with migraines, a medicine called buclizine can be an effective treatment. This is one of the active ingredients in Migraleve Pink tablets.
Other medicines can be prescribed to treat nausea and vomiting such as metoclopramide, domperidone, cyclizine and ondansetron. They are used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by many conditions such as morning sickness, vertigo and nausea after an operation.
