About

Dr Sharma has worked as a General Practitioner since 2009. He joined Simple Online Pharmacy in November 2022 as an online prescriber and has since become involved in a wider range of clinical and governance activities, including clinical communications, the development and review of standard operating procedures, prescriber recruitment, and his current role as a Designated Prescribing Practitioner (DPP).

Throughout his career, Avi has seen significant advances in acute medical care, alongside the growing challenge of managing chronic, non-communicable conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and mental health conditions. He recognises the pressures faced by both clinicians and patients and has a particular interest in how care can be delivered safely, clearly, and sustainably within modern healthcare systems.

He has a strong interest in lifestyle medicine and behaviour change, and believes pharmacological treatments, including weight-management medications, play an important role when used appropriately. He is particularly interested in supporting patients to make realistic, sustainable changes alongside appropriate medical treatment, recognising that small, consistent steps can have meaningful long-term benefits for health and wellbeing.

Interests

Avi values his roles as a father and husband above all else and enjoys spending time with his family and close friends. He takes an active interest in his own health and wellbeing, with a strong emphasis on fitness and strength training, complemented by yoga, and grounded in daily walking and simple breathwork.

Outside of work, he enjoys football and more recently playing padel, both as forms of exercise and connection, although he admits he would like to play more regularly when time allows.

He is particularly interested in how small, consistent daily habits, approached with kindness and self-compassion, can support long-term health, performance, and resilience for people at all stages of life.
