If you’re trying to lose weight, a healthy breakfast can set you up for a day of nutritious eating.

But if you’re on GLP-1 weight loss medication like Wegovy or Mounjaro, which acts as an appetite suppressant, you probably won’t feel hungry like you used to. This can make choosing a nutritious breakfast a challenge.

So if you don’t know what to eat – or you’re fed up of eating the same breakfast – try one of these three options instead. (Bonus: they can help alleviate common side effects of weight loss jabs.)

 

    • Porridge with fresh fruit

    • Chia seed pudding

    • Breakfast banana split

 

Porridge with Fresh Fruit

Helps with: constipation, low mood, insomnia, diarrhoea

Serves: 1 portion

 

Ingredients

For the oatmeal:

 

    • 45g rolled oats (equivalent to 1/2 cup)

    • 240 ml milk (dairy or plant-based) (equivalent to 1 cup)

    • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup

    • A pinch of salt

For the topping:

 

    • 75g mixed fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) (equivalent to 1/2 cup)

    • 1 tablespoon chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, or your choice)

    • A sprinkle of cinnamon

Method

 

    1. In a small saucepan, combine the rolled oats and milk. 

    1. Place the saucepan on medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. 

    1. Add 1 tablespoon of honey or maple syrup and stir. 

    1. Sprinkle a pinch of salt into the oatmeal and stir again. 

    1. Pour the hot oatmeal into a serving bowl. 

    1. Add toppings: Mixed fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) over the oatmeal. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, or your choice) on top of the berries. 

    1. Finish by sprinkling a pinch of cinnamon over the entire bowl.

 

Vanilla-Berry Chia Seed Pudding

Serves: 1 portion

Ingredients

 

    • 60g chia seeds 

    • 230ml semi skimmed milk (or any plant based  milk of your choice) 

    • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey

    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 

    • A pinch of salt 

    • 80g mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)

    • Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Method

 

    1. In a bowl, combine the chia seeds, almond milk, maple syrup or honey, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Stir well until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed.

    1. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. This allows the chia seeds to absorb the liquid and create a pudding-like consistency. 

    1. Before serving, give the chia pudding a good stir to ensure an even texture. 

    1. Wash and prepare the mixed berries. 

    1. In serving glasses or bowls, layer the chia pudding with the mixed berries. 

    1. Garnish with fresh mint leaves for a burst of freshness and aroma. 

    1. Serve chilled and enjoy the creamy vanilla-berry goodness of this simple and nutritious chia seed pudding.

    1. Feel free to customise this recipe by adding your favourite toppings such as shredded coconut, chopped nuts, or a dollop of Greek yoghurt for extra creaminess. This versatile pudding is not only delicious but also packed with nutrients! 

 

Breakfast Banana Split

Helps with: low mood, constipation, nausea, diarrhoea, headache

Serves: 1 portion

Ingredients

 

    • 1 banana – peeled and halved 

    • 2 scoops of natural yoghurt, frozen (avoid reduced-fat varieties)

    • 1 tsp nut butter of choice 

    • 1 tsp jam or marmalade of choice 

    • 1 tbsp granola 

    • 1 tbsp oats 

Optional: 

 

    • Handful of berries, cut into bite-sized pieces 

    • 20g dark chocolate, grated 

    • Kiwi, peeled and sliced 

    • 2 tbsp toasted nuts 

Method

 

    1. Prepare the banana – peel and halve the banana lengthwise. One slice should have the nut butter spread across the flat edge, the other your jam or marmalade of choice. Place in a large bowl. 

    1. Add the frozen yoghurt – top the banana with the two scoops of frozen yoghurt. Sprinkle with the granola and oats. 

    1. Top with the optional ingredients – top the split with optional ingredients and enjoy!
