The Skinnyjab weight loss injection is a celebrity endorsed weight loss programme. It was advertised to people on social media by celebrities such as Gemma Collins as an aid to help people lose weight. The programme came under scrutiny because it was advertised on social media. The Advertising Standards Authority found that it breached advertising rules in the UK.

The Skinnyjab injection uses a licensed medicine called Saxenda as a weight loss aid. This weight loss injection is legal and can be prescribed by doctors in the UK. You can request to order Saxenda online from our UK registered online doctor and pharmacy service.

In this post, we take a look at the drug behind Skinnyjab UK, how it works, and the Skinnyjab cost compared to buying Saxenda from Simple Online Pharmacy.

What is Saxenda?

Saxenda is the name of a weight loss injection manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk. It contains the active ingredient liraglutide. This active ingredient was first approved to treat people with type 2 diabetes and help control their blood sugar levels. It has since been approved in the UK as a weight-loss treatment.

It can be prescribed to people with a body mass index (BMI) over 30, or people with a BMI over 27 who also have a weight-related disease like high blood pressure. It should be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and exercise. Treatment is usually stopped after 12 weeks if a person hasn’t lost at least 5% of their body weight in this time.

Saxenda is injected every day and the dose is gradually increased over a 4 week period. It’s injected under the skin (subcutaneous injection) and should be injected into the front of the waist, the front of the thighs, or the upper arm. You can find full instructions in the patient information leaflet.

How does Skinnyjab work?

The active ingredient in Skinnyjab or Saxenda is called liraglutide. This drug is similar to a natural hormone in the body that’s released from the intestines after a meal. Saxenda works by acting on receptors in the brain that affect your appetite. This causes you to feel fuller and less hungry and can lead to eating less and weight loss.

How much does it cost?

The website offering Skinny jab has changed its name but still offers Saxenda online. We’ve checked their Skinnyjab prices (August 2021) and found that the first 3-4 week course of Saxenda costs £189 on their site. At Simple Online Pharmacy, we offer the first 3 weeks (2 pens) for only £100 and the first 4 weeks (3 pens) for £150. This provides a saving of between £39 – £89!

See the table below for a comparison of our price per pen for Saxenda vs the Skinnyjab pen prices:

Pens Simple Online Pharmacy SkinnyJab
1 £51 £99
2 £100 £198
3 £150 £297

Are weight loss jabs safe and legal?

Saxenda is a fully approved and licensed medicine in the UK. It has been studied in clinical trials before being approved as a safe and effective weight-loss treatment. For information on side effects and to see who isn’t suitable to use Saxenda, see the patient information leaflet

However, it’s a prescription-only medicine that can only be prescribed by a doctor or certain healthcare professionals. You can buy the Skinnyjab medicine Saxenda online from UK registered online pharmacies. You should verify online websites as genuine before ordering medicines from them or reading Saxenda or Skinnyjab reviews on these sites.

Are there alternative weight-loss medicines?

Another commonly prescribed weight loss medicine is orlistat. Orlistat is a capsule taken up to three times a day with meals. It works by reducing the amount of fat the body absorbs from food. Lower strength versions like Alli and Orlos are available over the counter. It can also be prescribed under the brand name Xenical.

If you are using orlistat, see our blog post that provides advice on getting the best results with orlistat.

Another weight loss injection called Wegovy has been recently approved. This is also manufactured by Novo Nordisk and works similarly to Saxenda. However, one big advantage is that Wegovy is injected weekly rather than daily and clinical trials have shown it to be effective for weight loss.

You can read our post that takes an in-depth look at Wegovy or visit our Wegovy page for further information. To read more about another weight loss injection, see our Ozempic page.
