What is Vitaros Cream?
The cream contains 300mcg of the active ingredient Alprostadil. Some men may prefer to use a cream instead of taking a tablet or may find ED tablets are not effective at improving their erections. The cream is applied to the urethra of the penis using an applicator.
It can be prescribed for men over the age of 18 years. The effect usually occurs within 30 minutes after applying Vitaros Cream and lasts for approximately 1-2 hours.
Vitaros is usually used to treat patients who have tried at least 2 different ED tablets (like sildenafil) and found them ineffective. It may also be helpful for patients who are unable to take other ED treatments.

How does Vitaros cream work?
Vitaros cream contains the active ingredient Alprostadil. This is very similar to a chemical found in the penis that is responsible for dilating the blood vessels of the penis. Alprostadil has the same action on the penis and helps to increase blood flow into the penis, which helps with achieving and maintaining an erection.

Vitaros cream may not always be best suited to your needs. Oral tablets are more suitable for some people. Examples include Viagra (or Sildenafil), Levitra (or Vardenafil), Cialis (or Tadalafil).

How to use Vitaros cream
Before applying the cream you should always wash your hands. Remove the Accudose container from the sachet and then bring it to room temperature by rolling it in your hands.
Squeeze the tip of your penis to widen the opening and place the container near the opening of your penis to insert the cream. The cream is applied to the opening of the penis. NOTE: do not insert the container inside the penis.

Warnings
Other conditions and Vitaros
You should not use the cream if you are allergic to alprostadil or any of the other ingredients in the cream. If you have any problems like an infection or inflammation of the penis you should not use the cream. If you have any problems that can cause a long-lasting erection, like sickle cell anaemia, you should not use the cream.
If your partner is pregnant, breastfeeding or may become pregnant, you cannot use the cream unless you use a condom barrier.
You should not use more than 1 dose of the cream in 24 hours. You should also not apply the cream more than 2 or 3 times per week.
