About Cetirizine

Cetirizine is an antihistamine tablet which is commonly used to ease symptoms associated with hayfever and other allergies.

It works by interfering with the body's inflammatory response pathway to lessen symptoms such as itchiness and redness.

Using Cetirizine

Cetirizine is usually taken ONCE daily. If you are a hayfever sufferer, you may find taking the tablet throughout the hayfever season effective in keeping symptoms at bay.

Cetirizine is not associated with causing drowsiness, so is often preferred for regular use over older antihistamines such as Phenergan.

Effectiveness

Cetirizine is a widely used and effective antihistamine however every patient can respond differently to medication. If you find Cetirizine is not effective for you, you may want to try Loratadine or another antihistamine.

Alternatives

Other treatments for allergy and hayfever are available at Simple Online pharmacy. These include;

  • Loratadine - a similar non-drowsy antihistamine.
  • Zirtek - The branded version of Cetirizine
  • Avamys - a prescription only nasal spray
  • Beconase - a steroid nasal spray
  • Optilast - eye drops used to relieve allergy symptoms present in your eyes. e.g itchy, watery eyes.

Loratadine vs Cetirizine

Both cetirizine and loratadine are non-sedating antihistamines which work to block histamine receptors in the body. This helps prevents the activation of the body's inflammatory response, and thus reduces symptoms associated with allergies.

Both medications are taken as once daily dosages, and both come in 10mg tablets!

In most respects, Cetirizine and Loratadine are similar, however, some people may find they respond better to one over another.
